In this first-ever book on the solfeggio tradition, one of the pillars of eighteenth-century music education, author Nicholas Baragwanath illuminates how performers and composers developed their exceptional skills in improvising and inventing melodies.
This book provides a comprehensive overview of tricuspid valve disease and an overview of different therapeutic options such as surgical and percutaneous approaches, current clinical trials and registries in the field of tricuspid valve disease. The book has an educational goal with key messages highlighted at the end of each chapter to assist comprehension of the often complex concepts. Practical Manual of Tricuspid Valve Diseases assists the clinician in dealing with different manifestations of tricuspid valve disease and providing help for choosing the best option for the management of these patients. It therefore serves as the standard reference regarding all aspects of tricuspid valve disease in adults and will be of importance to all medical professionals involved in the management of these patients.
Cardiothoracic Surgery Review covers all of the core knowledge necessary to pass the cardiothoracic boards or the cardiothoracic recertification exam. Each topic presents core information in two-to-four pages and concludes with a brief list of the most important references. The topics cover all areas in cardiothoracic surgery, including cardiac surgery, pediatric cardiac surgery, and thoracic surgery. Included with the book is a companion website featuring the fully searchable text and over 60 procedural videos. This topic-based review is ideal for anyone needing to rapidly reference an up-to-date knowledge base in cardiothoracic surgery, including cardiothoracic fellows, practitioners studying for recertification, and surgical nurses.
Part of the Monographs in Cardiac Surgery Series – Introducing ‘basic science into the cardiac operating room’. Fast systematic review of small areas of cardiac surgery including up-to-date information. This will allow more rapid publication than the alternative cardiac surgery ‘tomes’. This entry into the series will provide readers with a complete review of the current understanding in mitral valve surgery and include extensive details on the diagnosis and surgical management of patients with mitral valve disease.
This is the first comprehensive review of the edge-to-edge technique for mitral repair, which was introduced into the surgical armamentarium in 1991 by one of the authors, Ottavio Alfieri. The surgical technique employed in edge-to-edge repair today provides the basis for the only reliable method of percutaneous correction of degenerative mitral regurgitation. The book traces the evolution of the edge-to-edge technique from a surgical to a percutaneous approach, documenting indications, contraindications, technical aspects, controversies and clinical outcomes. Detailed attention is devoted to the MitraClip procedure, which reproduces the Alfieri stitch percutaneously and has to date been use...
This book covers in detail all aspects of functional mitral and tricuspid regurgitation, from its pathophysiology and natural history, to its assessment, medical and surgical treatment, and long term results. Functional Mitral and Tricuspid Regurgitation encompasses information and knowledge from a diverse background including cardiology, cardiac surgery and basic science. This is necessary for a full understanding of the subject in order to optimally manage patients with this condition.
These proceedings collect papers presented at the 11th International Conference on Multimedia & Network Information Systems (MISSI 2018), held from 12 to 14 September 2018 in Wrocław, Poland. The keynote lectures, given by four outstanding scientists, are also included here. The Conference attracted a great number of scientists from across Europe and beyond, and hosted the 6th International Workshop on Computational Intelligence for Multimedia Understanding as well as four special sessions. The majority of the papers describe various artificial intelligence (AI) methods applied to multimedia and natural language (NL) processing; they address hot topics such as virtual and augmented reality, identity recognition, video summarization, intelligent audio processing, accessing multilingual information and opinions, video games, and innovations in Web technologies. Accordingly, the proceedings provide a cutting-edge update on work being pursued in the rapidly evolving field of Multimedia and Internet Information Systems.
Mitral regurgitation (MR) affects millions of patients worldwide. It is a progressive condition that can worsen when left untreated, possibly leading to compensatory remodeling of the left ventricle. This can result in reduced functional capacity, poor quality of life, repeat hospitalizations, and even death from heart failure. Open, arrested heart
Severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is a common valvular heart disease with an incidence of approximately 4% in the adult general population. Most commonly, it results from secondary causes including left ventricular dysfunction, mitral regurgitation and pulmonary arterial hypertension. Isolated severe TR has been identified as an independent predictor of death and cardiac adverse events. Furthermore, TR has been observed to develop late after left-sided valve surgery in up to 10% of patients with adverse impact on clinical outcomes. Perioperative mortality after surgical correction of TR has been reported to range between 2 and 10%. Moreover, a relevant proportion of patients with TR have a...
