Los comunes reproductivos son aquellos trabajos, procesos y relaciones esenciales para la reproducción de los seres humanos y la satisfacción de sus necesidades básicas que han sido desplazados de espacios sociales comunitarios o públicos, bien hacia una esfera familiar o comunitaria invisibilizada, feminizada y devaluada, o bien hacia una esfera mercantil. En este libro se habla específicamente de comunes reproductivos porque sus contribuciones se centran en dos de las actividades más fundamentales para la reproducción social: el cuidado de las personas y la producción de alimentos, actividades que históricamente han sido invisibilizadas y despojadas de su valor económico para ser realizadas en el seno de familias y comunidades.
