Building Peace for a Living
Delo, ki črpa iz primera Kosova, osvetljuje nekatere najbolj kontroverzne koncepte postkolonialne dobe: izgradnjo miru, formiranje nacionalne-države in implementacijo razvoja na povojnih območjih. Posebej so poudarjeni razvojni delavci, ki ohranjajo mir in izvajajo razvojne projekte. Lifestyle Migration
Relatively affluent individuals from various corners of the globe are increasingly choosing to migrate, spurred on by the promise of a better and more fulfilling way of life within their destination. Despite its increasing scale, migration academics have yet to consolidate and establish lifestyle migration as a subfield of theoretical enquiry, until now. This volume offers a dynamic and holistic analysis of contemporary lifestyle migrations, exploring the expectations and aspirations which inform and drive migration alongside the realities of life within the destination. It also recognizes the structural conditions (and constraints) which frame lifestyle migration, laying the groundwork for further intellectual enquiry. Through rich empirical case studies this volume addresses this important and increasingly common form of migration in a manner that will interest scholars of mobility, migration, lifestyle and culture across the social sciences.
Building peace for a living
Using Kosovo as a case study, the book illuminates the interplay of some of the most controversial concepts in postcolonial times, including humanitarian intervention, peacebuilding, nation-state building, and doing development in war torn states. A special focus is on development professionals, mandated to build peace and implement development projects in war-torn or failed states. The book seeks to uncover the complex nature of doing good for others, especially when development efforts are serving the political and economic interests of donor states and when the social status attained by the expatriate development workers tends to improve upon migrating to and working in war-torn states.
Migration to and from Welfare States
This open access book explores the role of family, public, market and third sector welfare provision for individual and households’ decisions regarding geographical mobility. It challenges the state-centred approach in research on welfare and migration by emphasising migrants’ own reflections and experiences. It asks whether and in which ways different welfare concerns are part of migrants’ decisions regarding (or aspirations for) mobility. Employing a transnational and a translocal perspective, the book addresses different forms of geographical mobility, such as immigration, emigration, and re-migration, circular and return migration. By bringing in empirical findings from across a variety of Western and non-Western contexts, the book challenges the Eurocentric focus in current debates and contributes to a more nuanced and more integrated global account of the welfare-migration nexus.
Migration and Social Protection in Europe and Beyond (Volume 2)
This second open access book in a series of three volumes examines the repertoire of policies and programmes led by EU Member States to engage with their nationals residing abroad. Focusing on sending states’ engagement in the area of social protection, this book shows how a series of emigration-related policies that go beyond the realm of social security address the needs of nationals abroad in the area of health care, unemployment, family benefits, pensions and economic hardship. In addition, this volume highlights the variety of sending states’ institutions that are involved in these policies (consulates, diaspora institutions, ministries, agencies...) and their engagement with citizens abroad in other policy areas such as electoral rights, citizenship, language, culture, education, business or religion. As such this book is a valuable read to researchers, policy makers, government employees and NGO’s.
Occupational Safety and Health of Posted Workers
The papers contained in this booklet were presented at the transnational conference "Employment/Working Conditions, Occupational Safety and Health of Posted Workers" in Ljubljana, Slovenia (15 February 2017). The conference brought together experts (researchers and practitioners) from several European countries to discuss the existing and new challenges related to OSH (occupational safety and health), labour, and working conditions of posted workers. The conference served as the launch event of the POOSH project, financed by the European Comission (Programme EaSI PROGRESS) and led by Dr. Kristina Toplak from the Slovenian Migration Institute at ZRC SAZU. The booklet is covering the topic of the OSH of posted workers from several angles. The first part is framed around contributions given by researchers working in the field of labor mobility, with the focus on the occupational safety and health of posted workers. The second part contains contributions from practitioners working in NGOs, trade unions or Ministries of Labour who presented their work as well as discussed national and transnational legislations related to the OSH of posted workers.
