Dismenorea sering dialami oleh remaja putri. Angka kejadian dismenorea di Indonesia adalah 64,2%, yang terdiri dari 54,9% mengalami dismenorea primer dan 9,4% mengalami dismenorea sekunder. Faktor yang mendorong kejadian dismenorea pada remaja putri diantaranya menarche usia dini, indeks masa tubuh yang tidak normal, riwayat keluarga, sering mengkonsumsi makanan cepat saji, lama waktu menstruasi, terpapar asap rokok, konsumsi kopi dan alexythimia, kebiasaan minum susu dan anemia. Penanganan yang dapat diberikan untuk mengurangi dismenore meliputi terapi farmakologi dan nonfarmakologi.
