Buku ini terdiri atas 7 bab. Dari Bab 1 sampai dengan Bab 3 diuraikan secara singkat tentang sejarah teknologi biomarka dan perkembangannya, keterkaitan antara keragaman genetik dan biomarka, serta pengukuran keragaman dalam suatu populasi. Pada Bab 4 diuraikan secara khusus tentang DNA barcode dan arti pentingnya dalam kehidupan. Pada Bab 5, secara detail dijelaskan prinsip dasar teknologi biomarka, meliputi ekstraksi DNA, uji kuantitas dan kualitas DNA, amplifikasi DNA dengan PCR, pemotongan DNA dengan enzim retriksi, desain primer, dan PCR (polymerase chain reaction). Pada Bab 6 dijelaskan aplikasi teknologi biomarka, meliputi teknologi MAS (marker assisted selection), teknik dasar MAS, serta aplikasi biomarka untuk sifat produksi dan ketahanan terhadap infeksi penyakit. Pada Bab 7 diuraikan beberapa strategi pemuliaan ternak berbasis biomarka.
Prosiding ini memuat 70 makalah yang disajikan pada Seminar Nasional Inovasi Teknologi Peternakan 2022 dengan tema “Optimalisasi Integrated Farming System Berbasis Teknologi Peternakan dalam Menunjang Pemenuhan Protein Hewani di Era New Normal” yang dilaksanakan pada 19 November 2022 di Fakultas Peternakan Universitas Halu Oleo, Kendari, Sulawesi Tenggara.
