Pelindung: Amalan Taat Setia Masyarakat Melayu adalah sebuah karya klasik moden hasil nukilan Chandra Muzaffar. Menerusi karya ini, beliau telah meracik halus idea “pelindung” yang tampil di sepanjang zaman tradisional dan kontemporari masyarakat Melayu. Menganalisis dua lapisan dimensi “pelindung” yang merangkumi peranan simbolik dan substantif, Chandra telah meneliti pelbagai bentuk kuasa yang dimiliki oleh Raja-raja Melayu dan kelas pentadbir-bangsawan yang menggantikan mereka di zaman pasca-kemerdekaan. Turut ditekuni beliau ialah kesan politik dan ekonomi terhadap masyarakat Malaysia yang lebih luas hasil daripada kemunculan idea “pelindung” tersebut.
