This book investigates whether the presence of Muslim representatives in city councils improves substantive representation of Muslim interests across 32 London boroughs. It theorizes that descriptive representation of minorities leads to improved responsiveness to minority interests contingent on the percentage of minority representatives, the proportion of minorities in the district, level of party fragmentation among minority representatives, their political incorporation, and the electoral competitiveness of the district. It uses multivariate regression analysis to test the effects of these five explanatory variables. It validates the quantitative findings with case studies of three London boroughs while also investigating the role of representational styles of Muslim councillors on their political attitudes and behavior.

This book investigates what is driving Iran's nuclear weapons programme in a less-hostile regional environment, using a theory of protracted conflicts to explicate proliferation. Iran’s nuclear weapons program has alarmed the international community since the 1990s, but has come to the forefront of international security concerns since 2000. This book argues that Iran’s hostility with the United States remains the major causal factor for its proliferation activities. With the US administration pursuing aggressive foreign policies towards Iran since 2000, the latter’s security threat intensified. A society that is split on many important domestic issues remained united on the issue of n...

A great deal has been written on Love, Friendship, Culture and Tradition and in numerous ways has been portrayed in the form of film and drama. Weeping wounds and Silent desires contains all those sentiments and much more. A very gripping and powerful theme, it has all the ingredients of life, Destiny, the unknown. It gives the reader a clear insight of South Asians living in Britain in the 21't Century, where technology has progressed but it has also taken its toll on society on the whole. The people of South Asia left everything behind when they migrated in search of a better future. They left everything except their honour, pride, dignity and cultural beliefs. These they held very dearly and against all odds have tried in every way to inject their children with these values. Juggling with multiple cultures, the children born in Britain have shown great strength but also weaknesses when dealing with the uphill struggle of both cultures. No matter where they settled they had to follow certain traditions and morals; it was something very deeply rooted within them.

Path of the Seeker Book Two

Each of us is a seeker traveling on a unique but shared pilgrimage through life, passing through desire and purpose, illusion and truth, suffering and pleasure, through the self-created landscapes of our own thoughts, guided into realms of beauty and spirit by the voice and presence of the Beloved that are found within our hearts. In this volume the traveler progresses through inner realms of spiritual experience, encountering the joy of new discoveries while living a balanced and productive life in this world. Book Two includes two shorter works: The Lifted Veil and Wine from the Tavern, as well as Nargis Dowlands personal notebook containing her inspirational reflections, accounts of some of her visits with her Sufi teacher, Hazrat Inayat Khan, and some of Inayat Khans own recorded words. Also included is a biographical portrait of the author researched and compiled by Nancy Barta-Norton. Through the unreal, seek the real, through the shadows, realise the light; from the clouds of illusion that cover you, lift your eyes, that the sacred sun may illumine your way.
