Action Research into Teaching English in Russia's Professional Context

This book is a result of the investigative attempts of linguistics professionals to identify and meet the challenges of developing communicative competence in future engineers, economists and other such specialists. Educational Bilingualism

This volume focuses on the recent trend in English language pedagogy of “educational bilingualism”, that is, teaching English language, contents and cultures in bilingual lessons. It draws on the critical revision of the monolingual tradition of language instruction rooted in the outdated direct method once powerful at the turn of the 20th century. The realities of education are that the English language is spreading to foreign lands, circulating alongside native tongues, functioning as a universal communication tool for multinational groups or individuals and emerging as a global language in education. This book proves the hypothesis that in the epoch of information breakthroughs and global migration, the value of English in education lies in it being the key to innovative knowledge. This leads to its integration with the learners’ own language, providing alternative sources of information and marking cultural self-identity.

Alexey Bezgodov presents an unusual idea for White against the ever popular Caro-Kann Defence. The Russian Grandmaster and chess opening expert advocates a very early deviation, the annoying and little explored 3.f3!? This move may look unimpressive at first sight, but it considerably complicates life for Caro-Kann players, as it makes Black’s main problem bigger: the development of his bishop on c8. Small wonder that an increasing number of strong grandmasters, such as Vassily Ivanchuk, Alexander Morozevich and Judit Polgar, have incorporated this move in their repertoire. After 3.f3!? the bishop on c8 has nowhere to go, and Black will often struggle to avoid enduring problems. White’s chances to obtain an advantage are substantial, as Bezgodov shows in this fascinating new chapter in modern chess opening theory, packed with original analysis and clear explanations. ,

Violent Delights

I was born a princess among criminals. An untouchable among thieves. Heiress to a life others have killed for, and one I'd do anything to escape. I vowed not to leave without Diego, my first love and best friend, but if his ruthless brother has his way, I won’t leave at all. Cristiano de la Rosa is a man as big and bold as his legend. Once upon a time, he was our cartel’s best soldier . . . until he became my family’s worst enemy. And a man like Cristiano will bend fate to his will to get what he wants—even if it means tearing me from another's arms. Because in the de la Rosa family, old grudges run deeper than loyalty, and betrayal is a three-letter word: war. But this feud isn’t between enemies—it’s between brothers. And I’m the prize.

The snow in a Montreal winter covers a multitude of sins ... In the icy depths of a Quebec winter, a harmless old Polish man dies in mysterious circumstances. His suspicious niece draws in Montreal investigative journalist, Frank Delaney, to help her find the truth behind the death, a story the authorities seem to want covered up. The search for answers sweeps them into a dangerous web involving Canadian, Polish and Vatican agents who will use any means, even murder, to stop them. The catalyst for this international intrigue is the true story of Polish national art treasures secretly shipped to Canada to be hidden from the Nazis in the opening days of World War Two. This classic thriller combines fascinating history, deft storytelling and psychological depth. The Mazovia Legacy was shortlisted for the Arthur Ellis Award for Best First Crime Novel, 2004.
