Bryan Spinks is one of the world’s leading scholars in the field of liturgy and to have a comprehensive work by him on the Eucharist is a major catch for SCM. Like the author’s previous work on Baptism, this will become a standard work about the Eucharist and Eucharistic theology worldwide. The book, a study of the history and theology of the Eucharist, is the fifth volume in the SCM Studies in Worship and Liturgy series and will help to establish the series as a place for landmark books of liturgical scholarship.

Gut Check

It was a bolt out of the blue. The Redskins were looking for a coach to replace the disappointing Steve Spurrier. It appeared that the choice was going to come down to one of three coaches, all of whom had been fired at least once. Then, late in the evening on Tuesday, January 6, reports started to circulate that there was a new name in the mix, a magical name: Joe Gibbs. Internet boards buzzed and phones rang late into the very early hours of the next morning. There was utter disbelief at first-Gibbs turned down countless attempts to lure him back into coaching. Besides that, it's just way too good to be true. Then there was a scramble for more information. What's ESPN saying? Does the Post...

Irish and Scottish Art, c. 900-1900

As evidenced by the famed Book of Kells and monumental high crosses, Scotland and Ireland have long shared a distinctive artistic tradition. The story of how this tradition developed and flourished for another millennium through survival, adaptation and revival is less well known. Some works were preserved and repaired as relics, objects of devotion believed to hold magical powers. Respect for the past saw the creation of new artefacts through the assemblage of older parts, or the creation of fakes and facsimiles. Meanings and values attached to these objects, and to places with strong early Christian associations, changed over time but their 'Celtic' and/or 'Gaelic' character has remained to the forefront of Scottish and Irish national expression. Exploring themes of authenticity, imitation, heritage, conservation and nationalism, these interdisciplinary essays draw attention to a variety of understudied artworks and illustrate the enduring link that exists between Scottish and Irish cultures.

"Chronicling the first two seasons of the worst team in NFL history, an entertaining sports story follows the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the 1976 and 1977 seasons in which they cemented their place in football history as having the longest losing streak in the history of the league,"--NoveList.

A Little History of Dublin

Irish village. Viking town. English city. Proud European capital. A Little History of Dublin is a high-speed history of life in the Irish capital. The key events are explained in short, digestible chapters, and the reader can expect to discover the complete history of Dublin in the time it takes to walk from Dollymount to Dalkey. Incident, humour and humanity are privileged throughout this history in a hurry. Author Trevor White writes with affection but also with a clarity that reflects his experience of running a museum that celebrates the history, humour and hospitality of Dublin. The result is a crisp and colourful account of achievement and misadventure in a city that White calls Europe’s largest village.
