Indonesia merupakan negara dengan keanekaragaman hayati terbesar kedua di dunia. Begitu pula penggunaan tanaman obat terbesar di dunia salah satunya merupakan negara Indonesia bersama negara lain di Asia, seperti India dan Cina. Penggunaan tanaman untuk pengobatan merupakan bagian dari kekayaan budaya masyarakat Indonesia. Namun, sayangnya belum terdokumentasi dengan baik. Pentingnya invetarisasi tanaman obat suatu daerah seiring dengan modernisasi masyarakat untuk menjaga kelestarian dari tanaman obat suatu daerah. Kecamatan Tirtajaya merupakan salah satu kecamatan di Kabupaten Karawang yang saat ini masih menggunakan tanaman sebagai pengobatan. Namun, seiring berjalannya waktu semakin banyak generasi muda yang mulai melupakan pengetahuan tanaman obat dan mulai beralih kepada pengobatan modern.
