British artist Nicholas Popes (b. 1949) vivid, energetic drawings have informed his sculpture throughout his career. Variations on circles and holes in graphite and charcoal in the 1970s and 1980s were followed by more complex and vibrant arrangements of color in India ink, paint and biro in the early 1990s.
