Sea Change
Textiles were the second-most-traded commodity in all of world history, preceded only by grain. In the Ottoman Empire in particular, the sale and exchange of silks, cottons, and woolens generated an immense amount of revenue and touched every level of society, from rural women tending silkworms to pashas flaunting layers of watered camlet to merchants traveling to Mecca and beyond. Sea Change offers the first comprehensive history of the Ottoman textile sector, arguing that the trade's enduring success resulted from its openness to expertise and objects from far-flung locations. Amanda Phillips skillfully marries art history with social and economic history, integrating formal analysis of various textiles into wider discussions of how trade, technology, and migration impacted the production and consumption of textiles in the Mediterranean from around 1400 to 1800. Surveying a vast network of textile topographies that stretched from India to Italy and from Egypt to Iran, Sea Change illuminates often neglected aspects of material culture, showcasing the objects' ability to tell new kinds of stories.

Kurulduğu tarihten itibaren çok kadim bir şehir olan Antakya, tarihsel süreçte pek çok medeniyete ev sahipliği yaparak her dönem önemli bir şehir olma özelliğini korumuştur. Bu bağlamda Antakya şehri ile ilgili çokça makale, kitap vs. bilimsel eserler yazılmış ve şehrin tarihine ışık tutulmaya çalışılmıştır. Hataylı bir akademisyen olarak bizler de kendimizde böyle bir çalışma yapmanın sorumluluğunu hissederek, şehrin tarihine katkıda bulunmak istedik ve bu doğrultuda alanında uzman, birbirinden kıymetli akademisyenlerin titiz çalışmaları sonucu böyle bir çalışmayı yazın hayatına kazandırmaya çalıştık. Bu eserin ortaya çıkmasında emeği geçen tüm bölüm yazarlarına teşekkür ediyor, kendilerini saygı ve minnetle anıyorum. Ayrıca bana her zaman destek olan kıymetli eşime şükranlarımı sunuyorum. Since the establishment of the Attalid dynasty in the 3rd century bc the ancient city of Pergamon had been the capital and royal residence of the Attalid kingdom as well as a more or less independent Hellenistic polis with all its civic institutions. Consequently this book concentrates above all on Pergamon as a city and a royal capital, on its inhabitants and its sacred spaces, which feature so prominently in the urban fabric and include the Sanctuary of Athena, the Great Altar, the Asklepieion and the Red Hall (or Red Basilica). Although the chronological focus lies on the Hellenistic epoch, the articles in this volume cover a span from prehistory to the Byzantine period, as is essential if one is to understand the prerequisites for the city's development within its landscape, and also to appreciate how the legacy of Hellenism was handed down, changed, enriched and also destroyed in subsequent periods.

Historisch vormen de Koerden de grootste bevolkingsgroep ter wereld zonder eigen land. Ze wonen verspreid over verschillende landen in het Midden-Oosten, hebben een eigen taal en cultuur, maar geen autonome staat. Hun streven naar een onafhankelijk Koerdistan wordt door diverse landen in deze regio als een bedreiging ervaren. Dit boek schetst een overzicht van de moeizame betrekkingen tussen Turken en Koerden en geeft een analyse van de huidige situatie. Op basis daarvan verkent het de mogelijkheden voor de Koerden om hun rechten als nationale minderheid te realiseren binnen Turkije. Daarbij komt het grensoverschrijdende, internationale karakter van de relaties ter sprake en worden die relaties en hun ontwikkelingen binnen het brede perspectief van islam, nationalisme en moderniteit gepresenteerd.
