The bibliography aims to include all books, reviews and articles published in the year preceding its appearance, an exception being made for earlier studies which have been omitted inadvertently. Die Studie eröffnet einen neuen Blick auf den Entstehungsprozess kommunaler Schriftkultur in einer europäischen Großstadt des Spätmittelalters. Dabei zeigt die Geschichte der umfangreichen Überlieferung Augsburgs, wie mehrere Generationen städtischer Autoritäten im Zuge wachsender Emanzipation zunehmend auf Schriftlichkeit angewiesen waren und eigene Bedürfnisse der Archivierung ausprägten. Die Verschriftlichung war ein komplexer Prozess, der wichtige Lebensbereiche und Teile der städtischen Gesellschaft in unterschiedlicher Zeit und Intensität erfasste. Weniger als bisher angenommen ging es dabei um die pragmatische Effektivierung des Regierungshandelns. Der vorliegende Band dokumentiert den wesentlichen Ertrag der jahrzehntelangen wissenschaftlichen Beschäftigung des Autors mit Nikolaus von Kues bzw. Nicolaus Cusanus (1401 - 1464). Vorgestellt werden zum einen die facettenreiche Lebensgeschichte des Kardinals von der Mosel, in der sich in geradezu exemplarischer Weise die Spannungen und Konflikte seiner Zeit spiegeln, zum anderen die thematischen Schwerpunkte seiner theologischen Werke. Der Verfasser möchte zeigen, dass die Originalität und spekulative Tiefe der cusanischen Texte auch den gegenwärtigen theologischen Diskurs bereichern kann.
