There is a growing interest in studying narrative discourse as ‘experimental values laboratory,’ both reflecting social values and participating in their circulation. Given the omnipresence of narrative and story-telling practices in public life, from advertising to politics, law, and the media, the need for narrative savviness – that is, the ability to read for the values that inhere in and are transmitted through narrative – transcends the study of fiction. This volume brings into focus the ways in which narratives are informed and shaped by values, and how they transmit values themselves. The authors in the volume take a broad range of approaches to narrative, including narratology, rhetoric, ecocriticism, narrative (meta)hermeneutics, applied narratology, and frame theory. By bringing together strands of contemporary narrative theory that are not often found in dialogue with one another, the volume aims to capture the most recent developments in the study of narrative ethics.

Femicide, the killing of women and girls because of their gender, was until recently included in the category ‘homicide’, obscuring the special features of this social and gendered phenomenon. However, the majority of murders of women are perpetrated by men whom they know from family ties and are the result of intimate partner violence or so-called 'honour' killings. This book is the first one on femicide in Europe and presents the findings of a four-year project discussing various aspects of femicide. Written by leading international scholars with an interdiscplinary perspective, it looks at the prevention programmes and comparative quantitative and qualitative data collection, as well as the impact of culture. It proposes the establishment of a European Observatory on Femicide as a new direction for the future, showing the benefits of cross-national collaboration, united to prevent the murder of women and girls.

This book discusses LGBTI+ childhood from a critical, interdisciplinary perspective with the aim of contributing to a better understanding of the complex relationship between sexuality, gender and childhood. This theoretically and empirically grounded book uses case studies of political graffiti in the post-socialist Balkans and Central Europe to explore the use of graffiti as a subversive political media. Despite the increasing global digitisation, graffiti remains widespread and popular, providing with a few words or images a vivid visual indication of cultural conditions, social dynamics and power structures in a society, and provoking a variety of reactions. Using qualitative and quantitative methods, as well as detailed interdisciplinary analyses of "patriotic," extreme-right, soccer-fan, nostalgic, and chauvinist graffiti and street art, it looks at why and by whom graffiti is used as political media and to/against whom it is directed. The book theorises discussions of political graffiti and street art to show different methodological approaches from four perspectives: context, author, the work itself, and audience. It will be of interest to the growing body of literature focussing on (sub)cultural studies in the contemporary Balkans, transitology, visual cultural studies, art theory, anthropology, sociology, and studies of radical politics.
Publikacija je nastala kot rezultat mednarodnega raziskovalnega projekta GARCIA – Enakost spolov v akademski in raziskovalni sferi: boj proti karierni nestabilnosti in asimetriji (http://garciaproject.eu/). Cilj projekta je raziskovanje, oblikovanje in izvajanje posebnih ukrepov za ustvarjanje enakih možnosti med spoli v akademskem okolju (visokem šolstvu in raziskovanju). Na podlagi analize na makro-, mezo- in mikroravni publikacija obravnava spolno zaznamovane asimetrije na visokošolskih in raziskovalnih institucijah, s poudarkom na raziskovalkah/raziskovalcih na začetku znanstvenih karier, ki so zaposlene/zaposleni za določen čas. Z osredotočanjem na osebne izkušnje znanstvenic/znantvenikov, ki vstopajo v akademsko okolje, se prispevki poglabljajo v dinamike spolno zaznamovanih vsakdanjih praks v akademskem okolju in razkrivajo slepe pege v obstoječih poskusih uveljavljanja načela enakih možnosti v visokošolskih in raziskovalnih institucijah.
