With this volume, the well-known author begins a three-part book series that will cover all breeding directions of canary breeding in a compact form. In volume 1, the interesting history of the Canary's development into a domestic bird is examined from partly new aspects. The book contains tried and tested advice on keeping, caring for and breeding canaries in a manner appropriate to their species, as well as on a balanced, largely natural diet. In addition to an introduction to the anatomy of birds, embryonic development and feather structure, the volume also deals with compactly compiled advice on the treatment of diseases and parasite infestations. The special section of the book explains the four most important song canary breeds and their songs. In addition, there are valuable tips on breeding the song-colour and song-posture canaries. This part of the book is rounded off with tips on breeding and training the song canaries.
Compendium-Canaries, Volume 2
The second volume of the book series describes in a compact form the colour canaries and the fascinating breeding of carduelid hybrids. The author gives an overview of the history of genetics and the mechanisms of plumage colouration. The latest scientific findings are included. All currently bred and internationally recognised varieties of colour canaries are described in words and pictures. New are the colour descriptions according to the RAL colour system. Furthermore, there are valuable hints on breeding hybrids between canaries and other carduelids or between different carduelid species. Many mating is discussed and presented with pictures. These topics are rounded off with the necessary hints for participation in exhibitions and bird evaluations. In the appendix you will find a whole series of tables for the most diverse mating between individual canary colours.

The third volume of the book series describes in a compact form 59 posture canary breeds from all over the world in words and pictures. The special body shapes or plumage of these canaries are an expression of the breeder's will and fascinate many bird lovers worldwide. In the general part of the book, the ethical responsibility and animal welfare in bird breeding is explained, the special anato-my and inheritance mechanisms are described and general hints for breeding are given. In the special part, 59 posture canaries are presented. The history and development of each breed plays a special role, as some were created almost 200 years ago, others in more recent times. The de-scription of the standard characteristics and peculiarities in breeding complete the individual breed descriptions. This volume is rounded off with a list of all technical terms used in the three volumes of this compendium.

Expanding the Lexicon
The creation of new lexical units and patterns has been studied in different research frameworks, focusing on either system-internal or system-external aspects, from which no comprehensive view has emerged. The volume aims to fill this gap by studying dynamic processes in the lexicon – understood in a wide sense as not being necessarily limited to the word level – by bringing together approaches directed to morphological productivity as well as approaches analyzing general types of lexical innovation and the role of discourse-related factors. The papers deal with ongoing changes as well as with historical processes of change in different languages and reflect on patterns and specific subtypes of lexical innovation as well as on their external conditions and the speakers’ motivations for innovating.
