Menjelang 15 tahun penubuhannya, SOM pada tahun 2022 mara bergerak bersama-sama pihak berkepentingan di dalam negara, serantau, dan antarabangsa dalam melaksanakan penyelidikan pelbagai isu maritim terutamanya berkaitan dengan pencemaran marin, pengurusan maritim pintar dalam penyelenggaraan keselamatan pelayaran, dan perlindungan alam sekitar di Selat Melaka.
