This study conducted using the Theo-anthropological approach found that religion cannot be separated from daily behavior including in business. The contribution of Religion to society is a formalized structure in which human beings help each other connect with God and, thus, explore and respond to the divine in themselves and others. In addition, the concept of economic institutions and economic activity is just an abstraction that is useful to describe human interaction. Especially in pekalongan city, batik industry embodies the islamic religion that is majority believed. The presence of various economic infrastructures such as batik markets, batik villages and batik galleries throughout th...

The TBE Book

While the number of vector-borne diseases and their incidence in Europe is much less than in tropical and/or developing countries, there are nevertheless a substantial number of such infections in Europe. The most important one is the zoonotic arbovirus infection Tick-Borne Encephalitis (TBE), a virus transmitted to humans by ticks or by consumption of unpasteurized dairy products from infected cows, goats, or sheep. TBE is endemic in the non-tropical Eurasian forest belt with most cases occurring in Russia and in central and eastern parts of Europe. In endemic areas, TBE is one of the most important causes of viral meningitis/encephalitis and a major public health concern. Moreover, TBE is ...

Very few countries require directors to be financially literate. This article investigates the determinants of boards' financial expertise using a sample of 95 non-financial French listed firms. We construct a measure of financial expertise based on educational and career background data for 943 individuals occupying 1,140 posts in our sample and explore the determinants of average per-firm financial expertise using a Tobit analysis. We find that average financial expertise is negatively associated with board type (two-tier versus one-tier) and growth opportunities and positively associated with board independence, ownership concentration, and institutional ownership. These findings are robust to sensitivity analyses.

Chapters from expert contributors define and carefully evaluate the various market segments: donation-based and reward-based crowdfunding, crowdinvesting and crowdlending. They further provide an assessment of startups, market structure, as well as backers and investors for each segment. Attention is given to the theoretical and empirical findings from the recent economics and finance literature. Furthermore, the authors evaluate relevant regulatory efforts in several jurisdictions. This book will appeal to finance, entrepreneurship and legal scholars as well as entrepreneurs and platform operators.
