Type Systems for Distributed Programs: Components and Sessions
In this book we develop powerful techniques based on formal methods for the verification of correctness, consistency and safety properties related to dynamic reconfiguration and communication in complex distributed systems. In particular, static analysis techniques based on types and type systems are an adequate methodology considering their success in guaranteeing not only basic safety properties, but also more sophisticated ones like deadlock or lock freedom in concurrent settings.The main contributions of this book are twofold. i) We design a type system for a concurrent object-oriented calculus to statically ensure consistency of dynamic reconfigurations. ii) We define an encoding of the session pi-calculus, which models communication in distributed systems, into the standard typed pi-calculus. We use this encoding to derive properties like type safety and progress in the session pi-calculus by exploiting the corresponding properties in the standard typed pi-calculus.
Coordination Models and Languages
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 23rd IFIP WG 6.1 International Conference on Coordination Models and Language, COORDINATION 2021, held in Valletta, Malta, in June 2021, as part of the 16th International Federated Conference on Distributed Computing Techniques, DisCoTec 2021. Programming Languages and Systems
This open access book constitutes the proceedings of the 32nd European Symposium on Programming, ESOP 2023, which was held during April 22-27, 2023, in Paris, France, as part of the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software, ETAPS 2023. The 20 regular papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 55 submissions. Behavioural Types
Behavioural type systems in programming languages support the specification and verification of properties of programs beyond the traditional use of type systems to describe data processing. A major example of such a property is correctness of communication in concurrent and distributed systems, motivated by the importance of structured communication in modern software. Behavioural Types: from Theory to Tools presents programming languages and software tools produced by members of COST Action IC1201: Behavioural Types for Reliable Large-Scale Software Systems, a European research network that was funded from October 2012 to October 2016. As a survey of the most recent developments in the application of behavioural type systems, it is a valuable reference for researchers in the field, as well as an introduction to the area for graduate students and software developers.
Integrated Formal Methods
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Integrated Formal Methods, IFM 2019, held in Bergen, Norway, in December 2019. The 25 full papers and 3 short papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 95 submissions. The papers cover a broad spectrum of topics: from language design to verification and analysis techniques, to supporting tools and their integration into software engineering practice including both theoretical approaches and practical implementations.
