Meilensteine wie Rem Koolhaas‘ Stadtbibliothek in Seattle von 2004 definierten den Typus komplett neu und spiegelten die Entwicklung vom elitären Bildungstempel hin zum öffentlichen Wohnzimmer. Mischformen zwischen Bibliothek und Kaufhaus oder Theater entstanden. Zudem ist die Allgegenwart elektronischer Medien planerisch zu berücksichtigen; jede neue Bibliothek enthält heute Bereiche komplett ohne Bücher. Dieses Grundlagenwerk stellt in einem breiten systematischen Teil die entwurflichen, technischen und planerischen Voraussetzungen des Bibliotheksbaus dar. Spezialaspekte wie RFID, Zeichensysteme, Akustik oder besondere statische Anforderungen werden in eigenen Beiträgen von Experten erläutert. In vier Kategorien – Nationalbibliotheken, große öffentliche Bibliotheken, kleine öffentliche Bibliotheken, wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken – werden schließlich ca. 40 internationale wegweisende Projekte dokumentiert, darunter Jo Coenens Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam, Alvaro Sizas Kleinod der Stadtbibliothek für Viana do Castelo oder Mecanoos 2013 eröffnete Library of Birmingham.

Moving Sculptures
The Low Countries are generally considered to be the land of painting. Consequently, sculpture, especially that of the 16th century, has been insufficiently explored. In Moving Sculptures Aleksandra Lipińska presents a little-known chapter of the history of Netherlandish sculpture: the serial production of small-scale alabaster reliefs, altarpieces and statuettes in the workshops of Mechelen and Antwerp between c. 1525 and 1650. She gives the reader an insight into the rules of this craft, the specificity of the material, and the marketing methods employed. But the innovative element of this study lies in the fact that Lipińska analyses the phenomenon from the perspective of its distant recipients in Central and Northern Europe on the basis of works largely unknown to the broader public. This "Supplement to Genealogies in the Library of Congress" lists all genealogies in the Library of Congress that were catalogued between 1972 and 1976, showing acquisitions made by the Library in the five years since publication of the original two-volume Bibliography. Arranged alphabetically by family name, it adds several thousand works to the canon, clinching the Bibliography's position as the premier finding-aid in genealogy.

The Nature of German Imperialism
Today, the East African state of Tanzania is renowned for wildlife preserves such as the Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and the Selous Game Reserve. Yet few know that most of these initiatives emerged from decades of German colonial rule. This book gives the first full account of Tanzanian wildlife conservation up until World War I, focusing upon elephant hunting and the ivory trade as vital factors in a shift from exploitation to preservation that increasingly excluded indigenous Africans. Analyzing the formative interactions between colonial governance and the natural world, The Nature of German Imperialism situates East African wildlife policies within the global emergence of conservationist sensibilities around 1900.
