Ana tiene 35 años y es oriunda de Concepción, Chile. Su vida ha cambiado desde que le afecta un trastorno bipolar. Recibir el diagnóstico ha sido una impresión terrible para ella y furiosa consigo misma, con su familia y con el mundo, decide encerrarse en sí misma y vivir recluida en una pensión de estudiantes. Amargada y avergonzada de su enfermedad, Ana no quiere ver a nadie. Su principal contacto con el exterior son las cartas que escribe a su amigo David, un español que vive en Barcelona y quien le sugiere escribir un ensayo autobiográfico de sus episodios de depresión y locura. Poco después y sin ella quererlo comienza a surgir una amistad con Eduardo, un estudiante de ingeniería de 19 años que practica aikido. A esta amistad le siguen Javiera y Natalia, y poco a poco Ana se va integrando a la vida de la pensión y al típico jolgorio estudiantil. Gracias a la amistad que le brindan sus tres amigos, Ana se reconcilia consigo misma y con su enfermedad, y decide volver al mundo.
