The author of this book is uniquely experienced and gifted. He has advanced from drug addiction and crime to martial arts, an encounter with Jesus in a Syrian cave, and a deep schooling in body-soul prayer. He has learned from whatever is true, noble, right and pure in holistic traditions of east and west, including the desert Athletes of Christ and contemporary psycho-somatic research. Øyvind Borgsø teaches us how to de-stress. He is at home in his body and enables us to be at home in our bodies, which are temples of the Holy Spirit. 'Prayer means unblocking all the rooms in my body and soul' he tells us. He unpacks for us the old adage 'to pray is to breathe'. He writes about 'nowness', which some of us know as 'the sacrament of the present moment'. This man of prayer gives us the tools to become supple, replete, and to grow in stature. - Ray Simpson of Lindisfarne

Evagrius of Pontus (c.345-399) was one of the most prominent figures among the monks of the desert settlements of Nitria, Sketis, and Kellia in Lower Egypt. Through the course of his ascetic writings he formulated a systematic presentation of the teaching of the semi-eremitic monks of these settlements. The works of Evagrius had a profound influence on Eastern Orthodox monastic teaching and passed to the West through the writings of John Cassian (c.365-435). This is the first complete English translation of Evagrius' Greek ascetic writings, based on modern critical editions, where available, and, where they are not, on collations of the principal manuscripts. Two appendices provide variant readings for the Greek texts and the complete text of the long recension of Eulogios. The translations are accompanied by a commentary to guide the reader through the intricacies of Evagrian thought by offering explanatory comments and references to other Evagrian texts and relevant scholarly literature. Finally, detailed indexes are provided to allow the reader to identify and study the numerous themes of Evagrian teaching.

It’s possible for prayer to become so routine that it’s almost meaningless. Head-oriented prayer can focus on getting the words just right, while leaving out the rest of who you are. BodyPrayer helps you become fully engaged in prayer as you connect with God using more than mere words. By practicing various postures of prayer–many of them identical to those modeled in Scripture–you will open your life more fully to God. Body prayer involves all of who you are as you enter into communion with God, either individually or with other believers. Join Christians throughout history who used their entire being as a prayer–in expressions of joy, gratitude, and entreaty, as well as worship a...
