Der Autor beschreibt die aktuelle politische und wirtschaftliche Situation und die Geschichte von Presse und Rundfunk in Griechenland und der Türkei. Er stellt die beiden Länder einander vergleichend gegenüber. Sein zentrales Interesse gilt dabei der Arbeitssituation des einzelnen Journalisten. Auf der Basis zahlreicher Interviews und der Analyse von Besitz- und Einflussstrukturen kommt er zu einer kritischen Beurteilung der Pressefreiheit in beiden Ländern. Schwerpunktthemen des Buches sind Ausbildung, wirtschaftliche Situation und Selbstverständnis der Journalisten, die Rolle der Frauen im Journalismus, Arbeitsplatzsicherheit und Abhängigkeitsverhältnisse, Berufsorganisationen und Gewerkschaften sowie die Inanspruchnahme von Journalisten durch wirtschaftliche und politische Machtstrukturen. Er untersucht beispielhaft die Berichterstattung in den beiden Ländern über Konflikte im griechisch-türkischen Verhältnis. Im Vergleich kann er den Standort der Journalisten zwischen öffentlicher Meinung und politischen und wirtschaftlichen Interessen deutlich machen. Der Autor ist Medienwissenschaftler und arbeitet zugleich als Journalist in der Türkei.
