The Complete Collected Works of Dr. Phineas Parkhurst Quimby (Hardcover Edition)

Dr. Phineas Parkhurst Quimby (1802-1866) was a lifelong resident of Belfast, ME and a clockmaker, by trade. From the late 1840s until the time of his transition, he wrote down his own particular philosophical, psychological and metaphysical views on life, death, health, religion and the mind. His early studies of hypnosis, then called mesmerism, led him later on to develop his unique method of healing for both mental and physical affirmities. Proud of his New England heritage, passionate in his love of liberty and equality for all, outspoken in his admonitions against what he considered aristocracy and priestcraft, empathetic toward the sick and suffering, he recorded his experiences, experiments and case studies of his own life journey's explorations into humanity and spirituality, in order to leave behind, for us, what he found, for himself, to be universally applicable truths, for the benefit of all mankind. For this reason, he wrote this book. (Hardcover Edition) (700 pages)

Contains 24 contributions and an additional six abstracts focusing on the use of biocontrol agents in agriculture. Sections address the need for enhanced biocontrol agents and strategies for enhancement; technologies for enhancing biocontrol agents; risks from enhanced biocontrol agents and their mitigation; and genetics and molecular biology of enhancing biocontrol agents. The abstracts address emerging biocontrols including valine excreting isolate of Pseudomonas syringae cv. tagetis exhibiting enhanced virulence against hounds tongue (Cynoglossum officinale); application of fungal polysaccharides in plant protection; and the predisposing of forest weeds by chemical and manual cutting treatments to enhance the efficacy of selected biocontrol agents. Kirk-Othmer Chemical Technology and the Environment, 2 Volume Set

The two-volume reference work Chemical Technology and the Environment provides readers with knowledge on contemporary issues in environmental pollution, prevention and control, as well as regulatory, health and safety issues as related to chemical technology. It introduces and expands the knowledge on emerging "green" materials and processes and "greener" energy technology, as well as more general concepts and methodology including sustainable development and chemistry and green chemistry. Based on Wiley's renowned, Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology, this compact reference features the same breadth and quality of coverage and clarity of presentation found in the original.

Handbook on Biological Networks

Networked systems are all around us. The accumulated evidence of systems as complex as a cell cannot be fully understood by studying only their isolated constituents, giving rise to a new area of interest in research OCo the study of complex networks . In a broad sense, biological networks have been one of the most studied networks, and the field has benefited from many important contributions. By understanding and modeling the structure of a biological network, a better perception of its dynamical and functional behavior is to be expected. This unique book compiles the most relevant results and novel insights provided by network theory in the biological sciences, ranging from the structure ...
