Primarily intended as a text for undergraduate students of engineering for their core course in environmental studies, this book gives a clear introduction to the fundamental principles of ecology and environmental science and aptly summarizes the relationship between ecology and environmental engineering. Divided into three parts, the book begins by discussing the biosphere, natural resources, ecosystems, biodiversity, and community health. Then it goes on to give detailed description on topics such as pollution and control, environmental management, and sustainable development. The use of ion accelerators for purposes other than nuclear l physics research has expanded to the point where lother uses are now the most typical. The point has been reached where there are as many ion accelerators in industry, as in universities; and the bulk of new accelerator purchases appears to be for applied pur poses.
