Abiotic Stress Signaling in Plants: Functional Genomic Intervention

Abiotic stresses such as high temperature, low-temperature, drought and salinity limit crop productivity worldwide. Understanding plant responses to these stresses is essential for rational engineering of crop plants. In Arabidopsis, the signal transduction pathways for abiotic stresses, light, several phytohormones and pathogenesis have been elucidated. A significant portion of plant genomes (Arabidopsis and rice were mostly studied) encodes for proteins involves in signaling such as receptor, sensors, kinases, phosphatases, transcription factors and transporters/channels. Despite decades of physiological and molecular effort, knowledge pertaining to how plants sense and transduce low and h...

Innovative Teaching Pedagogies

Pedagogy is the study of the practice of education. Learning is driven by a teacher's philosophy, which in turn necessitates deep discussions between educators and their pupils. Educators may improve students' chances of success by helping them construct new information and refine existing abilities and mindsets. Studying new approaches to education and how they affect student learning is what "Innovative Pedagogy" is all about. Raising children to become lifelong students with a wide range of academic and social abilities requires a solid grounding in pedagogy. According to the National Education Policy 2020, schooling must be more comprehensive, interdisciplinary, welcoming, exciting, and interesting for students. By using real scientific equipment, such as controlling remote laboratory experiments or telescopes, creative pedagogy may help students build science inquiry skills and enhance motivation. While this kind of remote access was first intended for researchers and college students, it is now also accessible to prospective educators and students.

Learning Levels and Gaps in Pakistan

Abstract: The authors report on a survey of primary public and private schools in rural Pakistan with a focus on student achievement as measured through test scores. Absolute learning is low compared with curricular standards and international norms. Tested at the end of the third grade, a bare majority had mastered the K-I mathematics curriculum and 31 percent could correctly form a sentence with the word "school" in the vernacular (Urdu). As in high-income countries, bivariate comparisons show that higher learning is associated with household wealth and parental literacy. In sharp contrast to high-income countries, these gaps decrease dramatically in a multivariate regression once differen...
