Boris Queckbörner analysiert den ideengeschichtlichen Entwicklungsprozess der englischen Reformation zwischen den Herrschaftszeiten Heinrichs VIII. und Elisabeths I. Der alttestamentliche Exodus fungierte hierbei als Orientierungswissen und argumentativer Bezugspunkt, um reformatorisches Gedankengut zu vermitteln. Vor allem ermöglichte das biblische Narrativ es, bestehende Wissensbestände und alte Gewissheiten zu diskursivieren, neu zu ordnen und darüber letztlich Innovationen zu schaffen und zu legitimieren. Die gesellschaftliche Verfestigung des Glaubens an die göttliche Erwählung Englands muss dabei als ein wesentliches Resultat dieser kontinuierlichen Verargumentierung angesehen werden.

Die Juden im politischen System des Alten Reichs
Die geschichtliche Vorstellung der Juden als machtlosen Opfer von Verfolgungen und Diskriminierungen ist trotz zahlreicher Studien, welche die Vielfalt und Komplexität jüdischen Lebens in der Vergangenheit zeigen, ungebrochen. Die vorliegende Studie wendet sich gegen diese Vorstellung und hebt die Rolle der Juden im Reich des 16. Jahrhunderts als politische Akteure hervor, die das politische System des Reichs außerordentlich gut kannten, seine Kultur trefflich verstanden und in der Lage waren, Verfolgungen abzuwehren und Gesetzgebungsakte zu beeinflussen. Mit Fokus auf dem Zeitalter der Reichsreform beschreibt die Studie die Entstehung und Entwicklung der politischen Repräsentation der Reichsjuden, ihre politischen Strategien bei Verhandlungen mit Reichsobrigkeiten und ihre Reaktionen auf die Veränderungen in der Reichspolitik, die durch die Reformation und den Territorialisierungsprozess verursacht wurden. Die Arbeit zeigt, dass die jüdische Politik trotz der marginalen sozialen und rechtlichen Position der Juden im Reichgefüge ein immanenter Bestandteil der Reichsgeschichte war.

Approximately three fifths of the emigration from the United Kingdom to America arrived in the 19th century. The remainder came through Ellis Island between 1900 and 1924.
