The Shroud Codex

After a New Jersey priest has a near-death experience he begins to resemble the image depicted on the Shroud of Turin, prompting a skeptical Vatican representative to investigate the claim and subsequently question the assumptions he has held for so long. THE PRIEST… Brought back to life on an operating room table, Father Paul Bartholomew is haunted by visions of Christ as Golgotha. Then, as he celebrates Mass, blood starts running down his arms. The horrified congregation watches him collapse, his vestments soaked in the blood pouring from wounds on his wrists. Mysteriously, he now resembles in almost every physical aspect the Christ-like figure represented on the Shroud of Turin. THE SKE...

A Study in Scarlet

The very first Sherlock Holmes story, A Study in Scarlet was also the first of Conan Doyle's books to be published. His two creations, Holmes, the master of the science of detection and Watson, the great detective's faithful companion, are immediately in fine form. The mystery itself, its solution plucked unerringly by Holmes from the heart of Victorian London, proves to be the inevitable consequence of a tragedy of the American West. The story is harrowing in its alternating hope and despair, although Holmes himself was later to complain that the book `produces much the same effect as if you worked a love-story or an elopement into the fifth proposition of Euclid'. - ;The very first Sherloc...

The Divine Armory of Holy Scripture

In putting together this Scripture Text-Book, use has been freely made of the Roman Ritual, of the Paradisus Animœ, and, with due authority, of several modern compilations of Scripture texts. A grateful acknowledgment is especially due to the distinguished disciple and student of St. Thomas, the Rev. Dr. Gildea, for the Introductions to the five Books and their several Parts, which, with only two or three exceptions, are the work of his pen. These Introductions contain in a brief form the essence of theological teaching; and though treating often of abstruse and difficult subjects, they are written in so clear and easy a style as to be intelligible to any ordinary mind. An acknowledgment is also due for much assistance rendered by the Rev. Henry M. Bayley, B.A. Cantab., in drawing up the Calendar of Scripture Saints: a Calendar which will serve to bring the reader into a closer union of mind and heart with those great Saints whose lives are recorded or referred to in Holy Writ.
