The edge of one of many circles
This work in two volumes in honor of Irene Ramalho Santos gathers, from Portugal and abroad, the contributions of many colleagues and friends (most of them renowned scholars) who, over the years have worked on the same issues, entered into a dialogue with her and benefited from her learning and experience. The different sections reflect the diversity and depth of her academic interests: Anglo-American studies, Comparative studies, Poetics, Feminist studies, or Pessoa studies. It also includes a section with many original poems, a tribute from several Poets to whom Irene Ramalho Santos gave a voice or provided with a public forum in the International Meetings of Poets, which she launched in Coimbra over a span of 20 years.

A presente publicação constitui um desafio: dar a conhecer iconografia acumulada ao longo da vida Hospitalar e Universitária. É um livro que versa temáticas quer frequentes na prática clínica quer menos frequentes ou mesmo raras. Aborda ainda complicações ou doenças iatrogénicas por se entender que a reflexão sobre o êxito ou inêxito cirúrgico reveste carácter pedagógico, pelo que, é invocado o risco e criticado o gesto incorreto. Procura assinalar o detalhe ou a manifestação que caracteriza a patologia ou condiciona a intervenção. Os títulos dos diferentes capítulos divididos por patologias, por órgãos e por especialidades não os torna estanques. Há imagens que poderiam integrar mais que um capítulo; todavia, a repetição seria inútil e tal “lacuna” será suprida pelo índice onomástico. Caso o leitor entenda que há validade neste trabalho será possível reformulá-lo, acrescentando novas imagens comentadas que continuam em arquivo.
