// How does the Bologna Process affect translation & interpreting teaching, and what roles do diversity and unity play? The contributions in this volume stem from eleven different countries and depict multifaceted teaching approaches. These have been shaped both positively and negatively, on a structural as well as didactic level, by the unifying framework of the European Higher Education Area. The volume provides impetus for the development of a disciplinary meta-perspective on the functioning of the Bologna Process and as a result offers inspiration for the work of T&I educators in the Bologna context.
This publication focuses on the theoretical, methodological, empirical as well as paradigmatic tensions and intersections between various traditions in translation and interpreting studies. In recent decades the explosive growth of globalization and regional integration has fuelled parallel growth in multilingual conferences. Although conference interpreting has come of age as a profession, interpreter training programs have had varied success, pointing to the need for an instructional manual which covers the subject comprehensively. This book seeks to fill that need by providing a structured syllabus and an overview of interpretation accompanied by exercises in various aspects of the art. It is meant to serve as a practical guide for interpreters and as a complement to interpreter training programs in the classroom and online, particularly those for students preparing for conference interpreting in international governmental and business settings. This expanded second edition includes additional exercises and provides direct links to a variety of web-based resources and practice speeches, also including additional language combinations.
Based on thorough and extensive research, this book examines in detail traditional status signals in the translation profession. It provides case studies of eight European and non-European countries, with further chapters on sociological and economic modelling, and goes on to identify a number of policy options and make recommendations on rectifying problem areas.
