Pests and Diseases of Oil Palm in South America: the South American Experience
Oil palm is a relatively new crop in Central and South America, which was commercially established in the sixties. At present the total planted area is 350,000 ha, and the largest are the following: Colombia, 126,000 ha; Ecuador, 95,000 ha; Brazil, 39,000 ha; Venezuela, 14,000 ha; and Central America; 76,000 ha. Economically significant pests and diseases are common to the crop in Central and South America. The most important are Bud Rot (PC), Red Ring, Marchitez sorpresive and pestalotiopsis. Among insect pests the following must be mentioned: stem borrers such as Strategus oleus L. (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae), and some leaf eaters and succkers which may induce Pestalotiopsis and cause damage to oil palm fronds. Mites also represent a serious economic problem in Colombia. This article presents the characteristics of the main pests and diseases affecting the crop, which could spread to other continents. [Authors' abstract].

Este libro es un complemento de la teoría de la asignatura Equipamientos Ganaderos de cuarto curso del Grado de Ingeniería Agrícola – Tecnología Específica Explotaciones Ganaderas que se imparte en la Escuela Superior de Ingeniería de la Universidad de Almería. Se abordan problemas de tractores utilizados en tareas de transporte de forraje y costes. No se explican los conceptos teóricos necesarios para la resolución de los casos prácticos, se entiende que los lectores (preferentemente estudiantes del Grado de Ingeniería Agrícola) ya los poseen.

Alluvial fans are important sedimentary environments. They trap sediment delivered from mountain source areas, and exert an important control on the delivery of sediment to downstream environments, to axial drainages and to sedimentary basins. They preserve a sensitive record of environmental change within the mountain source areas. Alluvial fan geomorphology and sedimentology reflect not only drainage basin size and geology, but change in response to tectonic, climatic and base-level controls. La dictadura de Primo de Rivera (1923-1930) no fue un mero paréntesis en la historia de España ya que aprobó una importante legislación para modernizar el país desde una posición autoritaria. La obra parte de un análisis teórico sobre las leyes encaminadas a la modernización de la administración local y provincial, y bucea en el modelo de regulación de las relaciones patronos-obreros que articuló la Organización Corporativa Nacional (1926) a través de los comités paritarios.
