The Organizing Committee of the 15th International Conference on Bioactive Lipids in Cancer, Inflammation and Related Diseases compiled a group of junior investigators to provide reviews on the topics they presented at the Puerto Vallarta Bioactive Lipids conference, as part of the book series, Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology (AEMB). The book in this series will be titled Bioactive Lipids in Cancer, Inflammation and Related Diseases. Topics range from all classes of lipids including prostaglandins, resolvins, spingolipids, P450-derived lipids, endocannabanoids and phospholipids. The focus includes physiology, cell biology, and structural studies in organisms from bacteria to humans and how these studies addressed the role of lipids in various disease i.e. cancer, inflammation, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease and others.

This volume represents a collection of contributions from the 6th International Conference on Eicosanoids and Other Bioactive Lipids in Cancer, Inflammation, and Related Diseases held in Boston from September 12-15, 1999. The mission of this meeting was to bring together senior and junior investigators to both announce and examine their recent advancements in cutting-edge research on the roles and actions of lipid mediators and their impact in human physiology and disease pathogenesis. The meeting focused on new concepts in these areas of interest to both clinicians and researchers. The program included several outstanding plenary lectures and presentations by leading experts in the fields o...
This unique textbook provides information on the dramatic advances taking place in the field of inflammatory (autoimmune) diseases and their therapies. Experts in many different medical fields — allergology, dermatology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, rheumatology etc. — will describe the advances in our understanding of the most important inflammatory diseases linking basic science discoveries to the advances in therapeutics that have taken place over the past years and foreshadow even more dramatic changes which will occur in the years to come. This is a truly multi-specialty bench-to-bedside textbook that will enable readers to gain a wide-ranging but also solidly built understanding of the therapeutic areas of inflammatory diseases.
The past and future of inflammatory pharmacology research: a hot topic in health and disease Inflammation is a physiological response to a traumatic injury, bacterial, or viral infection. However, if not appropriately controlled, it contributes to a long list of diseases, including asthma, atherosclerosis, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, and cancer. Different are the types of inflammatory responses. Acute inflammation is an immediate body response to the cellular damage induced by pathogens, noxious stimuli, or physical injury – it is a short-term response resulting in healing via time-dependent changes of leukocyte functions. First, a leukocytes infiltration happens within the damaged regi...
Focuses on particular aspects of the so-called Phase II of drug detoxication, which has important ramifications for endogenous metabolism and nutrition. This volume on glutathione transferases and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidases serves to bring together methods and concepts in a rapidly developing field of cell and systems biology.
