Late-Antique Studies in Memory of Alan Cameron
The classicist and historian Alan Cameron (1938-2017) was, among other achievements, one of the scholars who most contributed to the refoundation of late-antique studies. In this tribute W. V. Harris and Anne Hunnell Chen have brought together fourteen contributions that cover a broad range of historical, literary, and art-historical topics, running from the first century AD to the ninth. Some contributions concern Cameron’s own favourite themes (the Greek Anthology, the Historia Augusta, circus factions, the transmission of texts), while others seek to assess his work and its impact. Other papers branch out from his concerns to discuss slavery, simony, and hospitals. Fourth- and fifth-century writers are often to the fore and the volume includes a new text by the poet Dioscoros of Aphrodite.
Unequal Neighbourhoods, Unequal Schools
Do schools work differently in deprived and privileged neighbourhoods? As segregation is on the rise in many cities, this book explores how different neighbourhood contexts shape public organisations, by using an innovative approach that combines a Bourdieusian perspective and new institutional theory. Based on interviews and ethnographic data from two primary schools in Berlin, Germany, it shows how local social compositions, symbolic meanings of urban areas, and neighbourhood-based policy interventions structure schools. Educational professionals adapt to these structural differences. The book analyses how teachers’ understandings and practices vary by local context – and what that means for the reproduction of urban inequality.

Prosopographical studies on the court elite in the Roman Empire (4th century A. D.)
The work presented concludes author’s long interest in the palace elite of the Roman Empire in the 4th century A.D. He tries to fill the lack of modern monograph dedicated to the group of four heads of palace administration: quaestor (QSP), master of office’s (Mag. Off.), count of the sacred largesse (CSL) and count of the privy purse (CRP), who formed the emperor’s council which met in the consistory of the imperial palace, thus often being referred to ascomites consistoriani. The work uses the alphabetical order of biograms. They contain information about: names, social and regional background, career, religion, family and connections, education and professional qualifications, and collects literature concerning them. The Fragmentary Latin Histories of Late Antiquity (AD 300-620)
The first systematic collection of fragmentary Latin historians from the period AD 300-620, this volume provides an edition and translation of, and commentary on, the fragments. It proposes new interpretations of the fragments and of the works from which they derive, whilst also spelling out what the fragments add to our knowledge of Late Antiquity. Integrating the fragmentary material with the texts preserved in full, the volume suggests new ways to understand the development of history writing in the transition from Antiquity to the Middle Ages.
