Seismic Exploration of the Deep Continental Crust

DEKORP, the German continental reflection seismic program, was the major focus of deep seismic research in Germany in the 1980s and 1990s. The seismic sections provided fundamental new insight into deep geological structure of the European continent and the dynamics of continental formation. They formed the basis for worldwide comparative studies of orogenic structure. The complicated signature of the reflections from the deep crust indicated that new processing and interpretation techniques must be considered to better image the crystalline crust. Results of these efforts, including pre-stack migration, 3-D imaging, shear waves and seismic anisotropy, are presented in this special volume. In part, the articles open the perspective to new and future research. In part, they document research activity triggered by technical and interpretational questions raised by DEKORP field work and profiling results. Many of the presented methods can find immediate application in industrial seismic prospecting.

This text discusses various applications of space-time adaptive processing, including applications in OTH-radar, ground target tracking, STAP in real world clutter environments, jammer cancellation, superresolution, active sonar, seismics and communications. It is divided into two parts: the first dealing with the classical adaptive suppression of airborne and spacebased radar clutter, and the second comprising of miscellaneous applications in other fields such as communications, underwater sound and seismics.

High Performance Computing in Science and Engineering ' 07

This book presents the state-of-the-art in simulation on supercomputers. Leading researchers present results achieved on systems of the Stuttgart High Performance Computing Center in 2007. The reports cover all fields of computational science and engineering, with emphasis on industrially relevant applications. Presenting results for both vector-based and microprocessor-based systems, the book allows comparison between performance levels and usability of various architectures.

Fluid-Induced Seismicity

This book provides a quantitative introduction to the physics, application, interpretation, and hazard aspects of fluid-induced seismicity, focussing on spatio-temporal dynamics. Including many real data examples, this is a valuable reference for researchers and graduate students of geophysics, geomechanics and petrophysics, and a practical guide for petroleum geoscientists and engineers.

The Leader's Bookshelf

Which books inspired some of the world’s most successful people – and why? Come on a journey of literary exploration and find out how books can impact your life. It turns out that the life stories of many famous people start out with a particular book that inspired them when young. Here, Martin Cohen explores the lives of some remarkable people – inventors, scientists, business gurus and political leaders – and the books that have challenged, inspired, and influenced them. And so exploring the ideas, dreams and inspirations that this diverse group shared is at the heart of this book too. Inspiration, in particular, is the thread that ties together individuals with characters and back...
