An art collector who was a patient at the Amsterdam Medical Center once expressed his gratitude with a donation of several works of art, the seed for the extraordinary modern art collection that now flourishes at the Amsterdam Medical Center. Since it began seriously cultivating its art collection in the 1980s, the Center has amassed approximately 5,000 works by Dutch and Dutch-resident artists. The Amsterdam Medical Center Art Book is an extraordinary showcase of the Center’s rich and diverse collection, which focuses on Dutch art from the 1950s through the 1970s. High-Performance Computers (HPC) have initiated a revolutionary develop ment in research and technology since many complex and challenging prob lems in this area can only be solved by HPC and a network in modeling, algo rithms and software. The 22nd International Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ICTAM) of the International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics was hosted by the Australasian mechanics community in the city of Adelaide during the last week of August 2008.
