Is there evidence to believe the Gospels? The Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, John—are four accounts of Jesus’s life and teachings while on earth. But should we accept them as historically accurate? What evidence is there that the recorded events actually happened? Presenting a case for the historical reliability of the Gospels, New Testament scholar Peter Williams examines evidence from non-Christian sources, assesses how accurately the four biblical accounts reflect the cultural context of their day, compares different accounts of the same events, and looks at how these texts were handed down throughout the centuries. Everyone from the skeptic to the scholar will find powerful arguments in favor of trusting the Gospels as trustworthy accounts of Jesus’s earthly life.

In 1934 Sir Peter Chalmers Mitchell retired at the age of seventy from a distinguished career as Secretary of the Zoological Society of London. He moved to Málaga and spent his time writing his memoirs. Then came the fascist uprising of 1936. While most other British residents fled to Gibraltar, Sir Peter stayed put in order to protect his "house and servants". When the Italian forces supporting the rebellion took Málaga, Sir Peter was arrested together with Arthur Koestler, to whom he'd provided a safe haven. The arresting officer was Luis Bolín, Franco's chief propagandist, who had vowed that if he ever laid his hands on Koestler he would "shoot him like a dog". This is Sir Peter's memoir of that period, first published in 1938.

Rush to Policy explores the appropriate role of technical analysis in policy formation. The authors ask when and how the use of sophisticated analytic techniques in decision making benefits the nation. They argue that these techniques are too often used in situations where they may not be needed or understood by the decision maker; where they may not be able to answer the questions raised but are nonetheless required by the law. House and Shull provide an excellent empirical base for describing the impact of politics on policies, policy analysis, and policy analysts. They examine cost benefit analysis, risk analysis, and decision analysis, and assess their ability to substitute for the curre...
