New Theologies of the Old Testament and History

In this book, Old Testament theologies written in the last two centuries are scrutinized with special regard to their relation to history. History as a way of making sense and finding one's orientation out of the past is discussed. A distinction between emic (taken from within a literary work) and etic (taken from outside of a literary work) perspectives is suggested as an important criterion for understanding any Old Testament theology. A King like All the Nations?

This book presents a plethora of perspectives on the phenomenon of kingship and state in the Bible and in history. Considered here are important parts of Old Testament literature, i.e. the Pentateuch, Deuteronomistic history, prophecy, and wisdom. Accordingly, the time span dealt with is quite broad, ranging from the pre-Monarchic era up until Hellenism. In addition, some contributions - reaching far beyond the boundary of the Old Testament - are presented, engaging thoroughly the archaeology of the "Holy Land," as well as the Ancient Near Eastern and Hellenistic context of the Old Testament. The Septuagint and the New Testament, repeatedly consulted in the book, turn attention to the questions of the history of reception. The book is based on an international symposium held in April 2014 in Prague. Of the 21 contributions, 15 are presented in English, while 6 more are in German language text. In this volume, the concept of quality is discussed both in the Bible and in the scholarship that evolved around the Bible. Scholars of various backgrounds analyse the Bible and its narrative and enumerative (or legal) way of qualifying the world around. According to the intrinsic theological view of the Bible, it is God himself who is the touchstone of any qualitative judgement. From literary and historical point of view though, we can - and we often do - judge Bible and things around us differently. The volume presents an intersection of biblical theology, biblical criticism and biblical archaeology in their quest for (their respective renditions of) quality.

Bioinoculants with Nano-compounds to Improve Soil Health: A Step Toward Sustainable Agriculture

In recent decades, agrochemicals have enhanced crop productivity to meet increasing global food requirements. However, prolonged and extensive use of agrochemicals has resulted in contamination that persists in the soil system which can be biomagnified in the food chain. Furthermore, toxic chemicals adversely affect important soil microbial biota, the key drivers of biogeochemical cycles. This concern has raised the need to develop environmentally friendly and cost-effective nano- and micro-biotechnology strategies to minimize the adverse impact of agrochemicals and pesticide residues on soil microbiota, soil fertility, and their biomagnification in food crops. Nano-bioinoculants - the combi...
