A Crimson Line to the Bright Horizon
Fereshte Teyfouri's writings focussing on Sufi thought and mystical concepts are presented with the original Persian texts and an English translation to introduce her poignant view of existence to a wider audience. The poetic miniatures muse on existentialist concepts, stemming from the perspective of her life in Iran and later Germany - and a visceral sense of not belonging - but with the dilemmas of alienation and displacement counterbalanced by the sentiments being expressed using Sufi terms, but sometimes from the standpoint of inanimate objects: tar, blotting paper, the cleansing nature of an eraser. Diskurse und Praktiken des Urbanen: Literaturen und Kulturen im städtischen Raum Discours et pratiques de la ville: littératures et cultures dans l'espace urbain
Die in französischer und deutscher Sprache verfassten Beiträge entstammen den Disziplinen Germanistik, Romanistik, Alte Geschichte, Klassische Philologie, Soziologie sowie Film- und Medienwissenschaft. Sie basieren auf Vorträgen, die auf verschiedenen Fachtagungen im Rahmen der Partnerschaft zwischen der Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main und der 'Ecole Normale Sup'erieure de Lyon gehalten wurden. In drei Sektionen werden unterschiedliche Facetten des weiten Forschungsfeldes 'Stadtkultur' beleuchtet. Die Beiträge orientieren sich teilweise an erfolgreichen Paradigmen wie Michel de Certeaus kulturwissenschaftlichem Konzept der Stadtaneignung, nehmen zum Teil aber auch weniger geläufige Perspektiven ein.
La mode en série
À la fin du XIXe siècle, la production sérielle de vêtements selon des tailles standardisées (confection) et la grande distribution connaissent un essor considérable à Berlin, capitale du nouvel Empire allemand fondé en 1871. En recourant à la notion de « système de la mode », le présent travail explore les mutations d'un système caractérisé par l'interaction nécessaire de trois acteurs principaux : la production, la distribution et la société. Cette histoire culturelle éclaire un corpus fragmenté, fait des traces héritées d'un secteur principalement juif, démantelé trente ans plus tard. Les études sociales, les journaux de mode, les annuaires de Berlin, les réclames et les rares documents de magasins reflètent une mode en mutation : la confection produit des nouveautés et la distribution attire une clientèle diversifiée. Ce contexte redéfinit la place des couches sociales dans le système de la mode. Enfin, ces changements entraînent une lente évolution des normes sociales et genrées qui s'appliquent désormais à la femme bourgeoise et à celle des couches moyennes.

The Cambridge History of German Literature
This is the first book to describe German literary history up to the unification of Germany in 1990. It takes a fresh look at the main authors and movements, and also asks what Germans in a given period were actually reading and writing, what they would have seen at the local theatre or found in the local lending library; it includes, for example, discussions of literature in Latin as well as in German, eighteenth-century letters and popular novels, Nazi literature and radio plays, and modern Swiss and Austrian literature.
