Die Stiftung - ein Paradox?
Stiftungen als Instrumente bürgerschaftlichen und hoheitlichen Handelns erleben eine bemerkenswerte Renaissance. Während jedoch begleitende juristische Fachliteratur zum Stiftungsrecht vielfach vorgelegt worden ist, steckt die geistes- und sozialwissenschaftliche Aufarbeitung des Stiftungswesens noch in den Anfängen. Die Frage, ob Stiftungen in einer modernen Demokratie eine theoretisch begründbare Legitimität besitzen, hat bisher kaum Antworten gefunden. Die stürmische Entwicklung der Stiftungspraxis erscheint insofern als Paradox. Rupert Graf Strachwitz, durch zahlreiche Veröffentlichungen ausgewiesen, unternimmt den Versuch, sich diesem Problem aus geistesgeschichtlicher und politikwissenschaftlicher Perspektive zu nähern. Ausgehend von der ersten großen Legitimitätskrise des Stiftungswesens im 18. und seiner Relegitimierung im 19.
