This is the first book by a Malawian woman theologian. First released in 1997 it won an honorable mention in the Noma Award for Publishing in Africa in 1998 and is now updated here with a new introduction by the author. The study traces the struggles and contribution of Chewa women to the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian. Amongst the topics are female mediumships in traditional religion, post-missionary developments in Chigwirizano, womens attempts to achieve some public manifestation of their personal relatioship to God in open ministry, and the current women's organisation in Nkhoma Synod. Dr. Isabel Apawo Phiri is in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Malawi.
What Is Hotter Than The Fire
The author tries to explore this question in the context of the social aspect of life. Almost every living organism avoids the fire. But for it to run straight into the fire may indicate that the fire is lesser hotter and can be used as a refuge. The author looks at other proverbs and explores their significance in the lives of many young people, including adults, as used in Zambian context. The use of animal stories adds the beauty of nature that Zambian families, especially in villages, are closely linked to.I cannot compare this book to any other on this subject matter in that it is unique. Words Are Forever
The anthology is named after the compiler’s foundation Words are forever. The essence being to note, words are timeless. They are a legacy that we as poets will leave even when we depart from this face of earth. Additionally, the book highlights the close affinity that writers and the general masses have with their words. Thus, our written and spoken word must show and bring out love. Ultimately, these words must be treasured bringing the world in unison that we are one people. Consequently, the reason why the anthology was penned by various poets from different countries. This is because the power of words unites us to speak one unilateral voice.
