Works presented in the publication come from a wide variety of genres including book reviews, poetry, essays, editorials, forum discussions, academic notes, lectures, and traditional peer-reviewed academic articles. In addition, we welcome contributions by journalists, librarians, archivists, and other commentators interested in German Studies broadly conceived. As a specifically transatlantic endeavor, we also highlight select topics in American Studies that impact German Studies. "This short monograph combines works by Hanne Darboven and John Cage from the stock of the Bayerische Staatsgalerie moderner Kunst in Munich. It shows the independent oeuvres of two highly individual artists whose works touch upon Minimal Art. Joachim Kaak's substantial essay examines Hanne Darboven's 7 Tafeln, II from 1972/73, a geometric construction on squared millimetre paper based on prime numbers and the square. Corinna Thierolf analyses John Cage's Ryoanji, a loose series of drawings made between 1983 and 1992. The title refers to the rock garden of the Ryoanji monastery in the north-west of Kyoto. With the help of the I Ching, the ancient book of wisdom and truth which Cofucius re-edited. Cage established a number system by which he encircled 15 stones he had picked out himself with 17 different pencils. On the basis of a complex concept based on random operations, this created partly very delicate circular formations, partly a structure composed of a dense tissue of lines. Religiose Erwachsenenbildung befindet sich im Umbruch: Wahrend die erfolgreiche Ara kirchlicher Bildungshauser zu Ende geht, entstehen neue urbane Lehr- und Lernzentren. Die klassische Katechese weicht vermehrt einer Bildung, die sich im Dienst religioser Selbstauslegung bzw. biografischer Selbststeuerung versteht. Die vorliegende Publikation beleuchtet diese Verschiebungen, diskutiert Theoriemodelle und fragt nach einer religiosen Erwachsenenbildung der Zukunft. Auf dem Hintergrund einer vielfach konstatierten Milieuverengung kirchlicher Angebote analysieren die Autorinnen und Autoren Profile von Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern sowie Zielgruppen und reflektieren so eine Thematik, die in den letzten Jahren im akademischen Diskurs wenig bearbeitet wurde. L'avenir des Réformés
La situation des Eglises réformées de Suisse s'est dramatiquement détériorée au cours de ces vingt dernières années et l'avenir est plutôt sombre. Tous les indicateurs montrent que la désaffection actuelle va se poursuivre, voire même s'accélérer, avec comme incidence notoire une diminution substantielle des ressources. Cette évolution suscite d'ores et déjà des réactions positives au sein des Eglises cantonales de Suisse avec, pour certaines, l'élaboration de nouvelles politiques de communication, de gouvernance et d'identification méthodique des demandes spirituelles de la population. Sur la base de plus de cinquante entretiens avec des experts et l'analyse du contexte démographique de la foi protestante aujourd'hui en Suisse, les auteurs présentent ici un tableau réaliste qui s'avèrera précieux pour affronter et anticiper les difficultés à venir. Ce livre s'adresse à tous ceux qu'intéresse l'avenir de la religion et des Eglises dans les sociétés modernes ainsi qu'à tous ceux qui, au sein des Eglises, sont ou seront appelés à élaborer des stratégies de développement à court, moyen et long terme.
