From Extractive to Abstractive Summarization: A Journey
This book describes recent advances in text summarization, identifies remaining gaps and challenges, and proposes ways to overcome them. It begins with one of the most frequently discussed topics in text summarization – ‘sentence extraction’ –, examines the effectiveness of current techniques in domain-specific text summarization, and proposes several improvements. Multi-lingual Information Access in South Asian Languages
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the Second and Third Workshops of the Forum for Information Retrieval Evaluation, FIRE 2010 and 2011, on Multi-lingual Information Access in South Asian Languages held in Gandhinagar, India, in February 2010 and in Bombay, India, in December 2011. The volume brings together revised and expanded versions of a total of 29 papers. The papers are organized in topical sections on various aspects of multi-lingual information access.

Advances in Information Retrieval
The three-volume set LNCS 13980, 13981 and 13982 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 45th European Conference on IR Research, ECIR 2023, held in Dublin, Ireland, during April 2-6, 2023. The 65 full papers, 41 short papers, 19 demonstration papers, 12 reproducibility papers consortium papers, 7 tutorial papers, and 10 doctorial consortium papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 489 submissions. The book also contains, 8 workshop summaries and 13 CLEF Lab descriptions. The accepted papers cover the state of the art in information retrieval focusing on user aspects, system and foundational aspects, machine learning, applications, evaluation, new social and technical challenges, and other topics of direct or indirect relevance to search.
Advances in Multilingual and Multimodal Information Retrieval
The eighth campaign of the Cross Language Evaluation Forum (CLEF) for - ropean languages was held from January to September 2007. There were seven distinct evaluation tracks in CLEF 2007, designed to test the performance of a wide range of multilingual information access systems or system components. CLEF is by now an established international evaluation initiative and, in 2007, 81 groups from all over the world submitted results for one or more of the di?erent evaluation tracks. Full details regarding the design of the tracks, the methodologies used for evaluation, and the results obtained by the participants can be found in the di?erent sections of these proceedings. As always the results of the campaign were reported and discussed at the annual workshop, held in Budapest, Hungary, 19-21 September, immediately following the eleventh European Conference on Digital Libraries. The workshop playsanimportantrolebyprovidingtheopportunityforallthe groupsthathave participated in the evaluation campaign to get together to compare approaches and exchange ideas.
Information Access Evaluation. Multilinguality, Multimodality, and Visual Analytics
This book constitutes the proceedings of the Third International Conference of the CLEF Initiative, CLEF 2012, held in Rome, Italy, in September 2012. Mining Intelligence and Knowledge Exploration

Multilingual and Multimodal Information Access Evaluation
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Second International Conference on Multilingual and Multimodal Information Access Evaluation, in continuation of the popular CLEF campaigns and workshops that have run for the last decade, CLEF 2011, held in Amsterdem, The Netherlands, in September 2011. The 14 revised full papers presented together with 2 keynote talks were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. The papers accepted for the conference included research on evaluation methods and settings, natural language processing within different domains and languages, multimedia and reflections on CLEF. Two keynote speakers highlighted important developments in the field of evaluation: the role of users in evaluation and a framework for the use of crowdsourcing experiments in the setting of retrieval evaluation.
