Settlers arrived in Pepperell as early as 1655, attracted by good farmland and the waters of the Nashua and Nissitissit Rivers. In a petition granted in 1742 by the general court, the area today recognized as Pepperell became known as Groton West Parish. Eventually the town was named in honor of Sir William Pepperell of Kittery, Maine. The settlers of Pepperell were patriotic and hardworking. Colonel William Prescott served admirably in the Battle of Bunker Hill, and in the late nineteenth century the town became well known for its very prosperous paper-making industry. Pepperell also came to attract visitors in the mid-nineteenth century, as it was home to five stagecoach relay stops and the Babbatassett Driving Park. In this marvelous new photographic history, author Joanne Saunders Foley chronicles the development of Pepperell from the mid-nineteenth to the early twentieth century. Come along and enjoy vintage views of celebrations, parades, and firemens' musters, and read all about the "witch" of North Pepperell. This marvelous new book gives form to many of the people, places, and events that have contributed to the history of the town.
Man is entering a new era as a result of advances in human reproduction. Techniques have been developed to assist in the creation of man-artificial insemination and, now, in vitro fertilization (IVF). Soon, other new methods, based upon current advances of the IVF procedure, will develop to improve the quality of human reproduction. The book describes the conceptual framework and details of technique concerned with in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (ET). Edwards and Steptoe first described the technique of IVF and ET and the subsequent births of two normal babies. Since then, the success rate of the system has been improved by the use of fertility drugs to provide more oocytes and p...
This book presenting the latest thinking on Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility is truly international as the authors hail from no less than four different continents (North America, Europe, Australia and Asia). The idea for this book was conceived during the XII World Congress On Fertility and Sterility where the unique confluence of our distinguished authors occurred in Singapore in October 1986. The authors were involved in the Pre And Post Congress Scientific Programmes which we organised. The overwhelming success of the Congress and the Pre And Post Congress Scientific Programmes prompted this book so that those unable to attend the meeting will still be able to benefit from the ...
An essential, practical guide for clinicians treating patients with infertility.
During the last decade, circadian and episodic fluctuations of the plasma levels of pituitary hormones have been demon~ trated in man. The interest in the time dependence of the pituitary secretions partially originates from their close functional relation with the neuroendocrine mechanisms pre sumably responsible for the control of the circadian.rhyth micity in man. High frequency blood sampling techniques and specific radio immunoassays have allowed to describe in detail the varia tions over the 24-h cycle of the hormonal concentrations in healthy individuals under basal conditions as well as after manipulation of external synchronizers such as the sleep wake cycle, the dark-light cycle an...
The idea for this book developed as an outcome of a multidisciplinary sym posium entitled "Pituitary Adenoma Update" that was held at Tufts-New En gland Medical Center in April 1977. The purpose of that symposium was to put together our current knowledge of the cause of pituitary tumors and discuss the diagnostic evaluation and management that was now appropriate, in light of the rapid advances that had taken place so recently in this area. Those of our colleagues who had presented papers at the symposium, as well as a number of others, were invited to contribute to this volume, which should serve as a presentation of the "state of the art" on all aspects of pitu itary tumors. We felt that s...
