Like Salt for Bread. The Jews of Bosnia and Herzegovina
This book is the only comprehensive treatment in any language of a rather “exotic” Balkan Jewish community. It places the Jewish community of Bosnia and Herzegovina into the context of the Jewish world, but also of the world within which it existed for around five hundred years under various empires and regimes. The Bosnian Jews might have remained a mostly unknown community to the rest of the world had it not played a unique role within the Bosnian Wars of the early 1990s, providing humanitarian aid to its neighbor Serbs, Croats, and Muslims. 1919 sind die Parlamentswahlen in Rumänien ein Ereignis. Das Staatsgebiet hat sich mit der Vereinigung nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg um ein Drittel vergrößert. Erstmals wird in allen Landesteilen gewählt. Bogdan Murgescu und Andrei Florin Sora zeichnen ein eindrucksvolles Panorama dieser Wahlen, der Bedingungen, unter denen sie stattfanden, und der Ergebnisse. Als Basis dienen ihnen Untersuchungen, die jeweils auf Kreisebene vorliegen. Sie führen all diese Studien zusammen. Die Auswertung erlaubt einen differenzierten Einblick in die zutiefst heterogenen Verhältnisse und ermöglicht Vergleiche mit anderen Regionen. In der Zusammenschau der Ergebnisse zeigt sich eindrucksvoll, wie groß der Wunsch nach Veränderung in dieser Region Europas nach der großen Katastrophe am Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts war.
