By emphasizing the complex ways in which gender and health intersect in Latin America, the contributors to this collection offer a more detailed look at how gender embodies health inequities in these populations and how societal woes impact and constrain gendered bodies in public spheres.

Este trabalho consiste num exercício de descrição interpretativa de um microcosmo social habitado por pessoas da Terceira Idade de Brasília. A pesquisa foi feita nos espaços de convívio habitualmente frequentados por eles. Os temas tratados guardam uma relação próxima com seu dia-a-dia. O relato foi redigido sob a forma de depoimentos, um apanhado de trechos que supomos representativos, elaborados a partir de notas de campo, conversas informais e de algumas dezenas de entrevistas. A grande motivação é a de que o relato possa evocar a um leitor desavisado, distante desta realidade, uma imagem vívida, o mais colorida possível, de como estes os idosos levam suas vidas em Brasília hoje.
