This highly original study looks at rituals of sociability in new and creative ways. Based upon thousands of personal letters, it reconstructs the changing country and London worlds of an English gentry family, and reveals intimate details about the social and cultural life of the period. Challenging current influential views, the book observes strong connections, instead of deep divisions, between country and city, land and trade, sociability and power. Its very different view undermines established stereotypes of omnipotent male patriarchs, powerless wives and kin, autonomous elder sons, and dependent younger brothers. Gifts of venison and visits in a coach reveal unexpected findings about the subtle power of women over the social code, the importance of younger sons, and the overwhelming impact of London. Successfully combining storytelling and historical analysis, the book recreates everyday lives in a period of overseas expansion, financial revolution, and political turmoil.
This pivot offers an innovative approach to dance education, bringing a creative and inclusive dance education pedagogy into Chinese dance classrooms. Associate Professor Ralph Buck’s experiences of teaching dance at the Beijing Dance Academy and the possible implications for dance education in China lie at the heart of this text. Through a critical examination of personal teaching practice, pedagogical issues, trends and rationales for dance education in the curriculum are highlighted. Informed by constructivist ideals that recognise dialogue and interaction, this pivot suggests that dance can be re-positioned and valued within educational contexts when pedagogical strategies and objectives are framed in terms of teaching and learning in, about and through dance education.

Out on her own at a young age, Rowan Oak didn't have many options open to her. Joining the force seemed the best of them at the time, and things hadn't gotten better since. With her career stalled, she worried that there weren't many opportunities still open to her. Not many chances to get back into her daughter's life. That is, until a spell worked for her unexpectedly. The elements hadn't been responding to the covens. Not like they had for their ancestors when they first settled on the three ley lines that ran through Chicago. Rowan had been kicked out of two of the three covens, but she had always kept the goddess close to her heart. Kept to the faith that she was born to. With the elements seeming to awaken around her, Rowan started to worry that something else was going on. That something darker was coming around the corner. And when the Stones started dying on her, it was hard for her not to feel responsible for it all.

A history of Bridlington Priory from its establishment to the dissolution. Plus an architectural description of the remaining church. With a big appendix section of original sources. Reprint of an 1836 book by Marmaduke Prickett. Some illustrations and a subscribers' list were in an 1831 version but were removed by Prickett for his 1836 book. I have reintroduced them as an addendum to the reprint of the 1836 version.
