When the Bibliography of Books About American Football 1891-2015 was published in 2016, Gerald R. Gems reviewed it in the Journal of Sport History. He wrote: "Ralph Hickok has performed a valuable service for all researchers of American football by compiling a massive bibliography of books on the subject, surpassing that of Myron Smith in 1993, at an exceptional price...".the compilation is extensive and inclusive, with books grouped in twenty-three general categories."This is a revised and updated edition of that bibliography, adding books published from 2016 through 2018 and updating some of the earlier entries. Some books scheduled for publication in 2019 are also included.
