Diary of an Undocumented Immigrant

The history of the United States in large part is the history of immigration, an immigration of working class peoples. Usually documented by sociologists, economists and other social scientists, the history becomes sanitized, devoid of the sweat, toil, and tears that make up the stories of real people. Here is an authentic, unexpected document from the very hands of a laborer whose trials have been even more burdensome due to his illegal status. Diary of an Undocumented Immigrant, the first book by RamÑn ñTianguisî P?rez, is written in a style that makes the stories of P?rez and his compatriots even more poignant, more touching, and more absurd given the nature of American politics and im...

Jim Henson's Tale of Sand (Screenplay)

Between 1967 and 1974, Jim Henson and his longtime writing partner Jerry Juhl developed three drafts of a screenplay for a feature-length film entitled TALE OF SAND. It was durning the development of the later drafts of the screenplay that Jim Henson became involved in the production of SESAME STREET and THE MUPPET SHOW, and left behind the experimental filmmaking of his youth to concentrate on the creations that would in time make him a household name. TALE OF SAND remained in the vaults of The Jim Henson Company as the only feature-length screenplay written by Henson that he was never able to produce during his lifetime. Stunningly illustrated and adapted by acclaimed artist Ramon K. Perez (WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN), the most critically acclaimed graphic novel of 2012-- winner of 3 Eisner Awards and 2 Harvey Awards including Best Graphic Album-- finally makes its digital debut on comiXology.

Following the 1961 assassination of dictator Rafael Trujillo, the Dominican Republic descended into a period of national turmoil and political instability, culminating in 1965 when a catastrophic civil war engulfed the capital city of Santo Domingo. The intervention of foreign troops, particularly U.S. troops, played a critical role in the multinational effort to allow presidential elections to take place in June 1966. The result was the installation of Joaquin Balaguer in the presidency. Subsequently, this skillful civilian leader defeated both a right wing coup and a Cuban-based guerrilla expedition, and successfully gained control of the chaotic Dominican officer corps by the mid-1970s. In this comprehensive study of the Dominican Republic's Balaguer era, the author draws upon declassified U.S. State Department and military documents and his own experiences as an army attache in the U.S. Embassy, Santo Domingo, during the early 1970s. The result is a unique, inside look at Balaguer's presidency, his skillful manipulation of rival officers and cliques, and American involvement in the political history of the Dominican Republic.
