Baker, Conrad, Angus, and Masaccio are high school teachers who occasionally meet to jam as a crude alt-rock garage band. They are also diehard hockey fans desperate to see an end to their beloved Toronto Mighty Pines’ fifty-seven year Cup drought. But another early playoff exit soon has the foursome resolving to support the team in ways beyond just cheering. Enlisting the vocal talents of a new teacher named Perreault, the weekend rockers restyle themselves as a musical coven and decide to call on supernatural forces for help with their hockey woes. By transforming popular song lyrics into hockey spells, they create a magical playlist of tunes and dip their toes into witchcraft. A bit of help from a seasoned Wiccan and her talented apprentice impacts the five fans’ world in subtle ways, tuning them into the love, loss, and mystery saturating their ordinary lives. Will any of it serve to bring the Clarence Cup, hockey’s Holy Grail, back to the city of Toronto? That depends, of course, on how the Mighty Pines fare during an erratic and unpredictable 2019-2020 season—a season like few others, and one that will leave more than just the Pines’ fortunes in question.

Coming To, and Staying In, the Poorest Country in the EU

This book is a multi-layered scientific study of the immigrants who have come to Bulgaria since 1990 – specifically, their patterns of movement, settlement, social networks, identity dynamics, integration and adaptation, their impact on the social environment, and changes in the cultural specifics. Until recently, studies on immigration in Bulgaria have mainly been oriented towards particular communities within the framework of ethnic studies. The chapters in this volume do not ignore immigrants’ ethnicity and origins, but their main focus is reasons for migration, be they economic, educational, political, marital, or lifestyle-based. The book examines several important factors of settlement in Bulgaria: interaction between the local population and immigrants, stereotypes and attitudes towards the newcomers, as well as the influence of local, kinship, and social networks and contacts.

Recruited from SEALS to join Jaspers, a covert military force, Henry Thompson believes he’s training to assassinate foreign threats to this country. Only after he graduates and gets his orders does he realize that his true mission is to kill the President of the United States by using the White House access his girlfriend provides, and that he’s already too boxed in by his handlers to refuse. Heat Sync is an exciting but non-traditional thriller that deeply probes the emotions and psychology of a patriotic killer.

Decolonising Geography? Disciplinary Histories and the End of the British Empire in Africa, 1948-1998

DECOLONISING GEOGRAPHY? “This book presents an extraordinarily sensitive account of geography’s histories in five African countries subjected to British colonial rule. Craggs and Neate draw together political and imaginative processes of decolonisation, through an innovative biographical approach that humanizes and enlivens the story of our academic discipline. It will be an invaluable resource for those seeking a deeper understanding of??decolonisation, its recent trajectories and far-reaching implications, on the African continent.” —Shari Daya, Affiliate Associate Professor in Environmental and Geographical Science, University of Cape Town “By placing the experiences, ideas, and...
