Deterioration, They Said
American artists Cory Arcangel, Jessica Ciocci & Jacob Ciocci / Paper Rad, Shana Moulton, and Ryan Trecartin and Lizzie Fitch, have been brought together in this publication. In their works the artists create an overwhelming, colour-charged aesthetic with an excessive density of content, reacting to the consumer-oriented condition of Western society. In their image-spaces the four collaborations address a culture of excess, constructing their critique via a form of appropriation, which simultaneously releases a veritable deluge of images. In the tradition of experimental film and Scatter art they probe potential unconventional narrative patterns and test for the disintegration of stereotypes. As a result, the video works are often shown in sculptural settings, in which fragments of pop culture and handcrafted forms are amalgamated into an multimedia Gesamtkunstwerk. The American artist Stephen G. Rhodes' installations, which are distinguished by the combination of diverse media, are based on selected references from a wide range of historical and cultural sources, including the American past and the histories of art and film, which he fuses into a new and dense semantic system.In the cycle of works Rhodes presented in 2009 under the title Dar Allers war ne'ereny Bear Bear at Galerie Isabella Bortolozzi Gallery, for example, he linked Walt Disney's Song of the South (1946), a movie adaptation of Joel Chandler Harris's Uncle Remus stories, which are in turn based on the oral histories of the slaves on the plantations of the American South, to Stanley Kubrick's The Shining (1980).This first monograph, published in conjunction with Rhodes' solo exhibition at the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst (February 2013) will give an overview of the artist's oeuvre of the last 10 years.English and German text.

Mark Leckey creates his works by merging, sampling, recreating and referencing material from the current pop-culture & music and itś historic predeccesors. His videos, collages and performances reference Saint Just, Montesqieu, Walther Pater Patrick Procter as well as Beyonce, Jeff Koons and the Spice Girls. 7 Windmill Street W1 is the first survey catalogue of his various activities. Conceived as a source book of his working methods and fields of interest, it has been edited by the artist and features images of his main productions, as well as a wealth of other visual materials he has gathered through the years. In addition to original contributions by the artist, it includes reprints of texts from Michel Leiris, and the 19th century-writer Walter Pater, and song lyrics.
Maja Bajevic
This publication on the French-Bosnian artist Maja Bajevic accompanies her comprehensive exhibition at the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst and focuses on her most recent bodies of works. Since the mid-1990s she has explored a wide variety of issues related to globalization and migration, inclusion and exclusion, exploitation, neoliberalism and the interactions between these notions. Bajevic also consistently investigates her own identity, and the meaning of "home" and what this constitutes. Charles Atlas
For almost 50 years, New York-based artist Charles Atlas (born 1949) has been a leading figure in film and video art, creating seminal works documenting dance and performance art, involving choreographers such as Merce Cunningham and Michael Clark, as well as the fashion designer and performance artist Leigh Bowery. His network of collaborators and associates largely coincides with his circle of friends: many of his works from the 1980s and 1990s are portraits of fellow protagonists of the New York underground scene and the contemporary milieu, employing a sub- and pop-cultural idiom to scrutinize aspects of bio-power and the politics of bodies and identity. The publication features commissioned essays by art historians and curators, reflecting on Atlas' strategies and the themes that have shaped his oeuvre over the years.
Mal Ȇtre
"Mal Ȇtre / Performance features the motif of people on boats throughout history, from ancient Greece to contemporary media footage. All of the works are drawn in graphite, and images range from those inspired by fifteenth century Catholic ex-voto paintings, to Théodore Géricault's The Raft of the Medusa, up to Aquarius, the boat that rescued migrants in the Mediterranean Sea in 2018. Using the slow and cumulative process of drawing and erasing, Bauer's project brings the past into the present in his investigation of humanity. He says:This new installation of drawings is an attempt to understand the relationship between images, to see what impact they have on our perception of reality, and how they condition our way of thinking and define our identities.The first part of the exhibition title, Mal Ȇtre, roughly translates from the French to 'being in a bad way'. This condition unites images of people in transit across seas today and in the distant past.
