Music from Both Sides
Matija Arko, po domače Hojer, rojen v Sodražici, se je v mladosti izselil v Ameriko in s seboj prinesel veselje do glasbe in harmonike. Glasba je postala pomemben del njegovega življenja in s svojo skupino Hoyer trio je postal zelo priljubljen med Slovenci v ZDA pa tudi med izseljenci drugih narodnosti. S prepletanjem slovenske ljudske glasbe in različnih oblik ameriške popularne glasbe tistega časa je postavil temelje t. i. polka glasbe, ki je zaradi privlačnosti prestopila etnične meje in pozneje dosegla vsesplošno popularnost. Veliko glasbe Matije Arka je dokumentirane in ohranjene na gramofonskih ploščah, ki nudijo vpogled v njegovo delo in zgodovino slovenske glasbe v ZDA. O Matiji Arku, v Ameriki bolj znanem kot Matt Hoyer, in o njegovem glasbenem ustvarjanju smo vedeli v Sloveniji zelo malo. S pričujočo knjigo, ki je angleški prevod slovenske knjige, želimo opozoriti nanj, na njegovo delovanje in na glasbo, ki je ohranjena na starih gramofonskih ploščah.

Tango Dance and Music
This book is the first to explore tango argentino as translocal practice, with a focus on the European context. Beyond that, the book crosses borders in the use of both qualitative and quantitative methods, ranging from participant observation to statistical data evaluation, including optical motion capture for movement analysis. Most of all, it is an important contribution to the emerging field of choreomusicology, focusing on movement and sound structures, dancers and musicians, and the complex relations between all of these factors that all have their share in shaping tango argentino practice.

Historical Sources of Ethnomusicology in Contemporary Debate
This anthology concerns traditional music and archives, and discusses their relationship as seen from historical and epistemological perspectives. Music recordings on wax cylinders, 78 records or magnetic tape, made in the first half of the 20th century, are regarded today as valuable sources for understanding musical processes in their social dimension and as unique cultural heritage. Most of these historical sound recordings are preserved in sound archives, now increasingly accessible in digital formats. Written by renowned experts, the articles here focus on archives, individual and collective memory, and heritage as today’s recreation of the past. Contributors discuss the role of historical sources of traditional music in contemporary research based on examples from music cultures in West Africa, Scandinavia, Turkey, and Portugal, among others. The book will appeal to musicologists and cultural anthropologists, as well as historians and sociologists, and will be of interest to anyone concerned with sound archives, libraries, universities and cultural institutions dedicated to traditional music.
Štajeriš
Knjige podaja podobo štajeriša na Slovenskem, tako s koreološkega kot plesno-antropološkega vidika. Zaèetno poglavje uokvirja tematiko z geografskega, èasovnega in teoretskega vidika in daje osnovo dvema temeljnima sklopoma v nadaljevanju. V prvem sklopu je najprej predstavljena morfološka in strukturna analiza plesa, v nadaljevanju pa je izvedena morfološko-strukturna analiza štajeriša na Slovenskem, pri èemer je osnovna delitev izvedena iz števila sodelujoèih pri plesu. V drugem sklopu knjige se pozornost iz plesa preusmeri na èloveka, na vlogo, ki jo je imel štajeriš v njegovem življenju, na ples kot medij, s katerim je èlovek sporoèal o razumevanju sveta, sebe in drugega. Osrednja sklopa zaokrožuje krajše poglavje o odsevih nekdanje tradicije v sodobnosti, v novih okolišèinah, ko je t.i. ljudski ples doživel preobrazbo v folklorni ples. Poleg tega knjiga v dodatku prinaša zapise treh doslej še neobjavljenih štajerišev iz treh razliènih krajev Slovenije, ki jih hrani arhiv Glasbenonarodopisnega inštituta.
Prekmurje
Knjiga o Prekmurju je delo devetnajstih domačih in tujih avtoric in avtorjev, ki v svojih razpravah obravnavajo kulturne, socialne, zgodovinske in naravne značilnosti te panonske pokrajine in jih sklenejo v zanimivo zgodbo. Pokrajina, ki s svojimi geografskimi in kulturnimi posebnostmi navdušuje naključne obiskovalce in turiste, je predstavljena v vsej svoji raznolikosti in povezanosti s širšim evropskim kulturnim prostorom, ki je močno zaznamoval življenje, razmišljanje in ustvarjanje tukajšnjih ljudi. Avtorji v besedilih pojasnjujejo, zakaj je prekmurska ljudska pesem tako drugačna od pesmi iz drugih slovenskih pokrajin, zakaj ima Prekmurje toliko posebnosti v prehrani, praznovanjih in obredih, katere so značilnosti prekmurščine in njene javne rabe, kakšno je bilo življenje prekmurskih družin nekoč in kakšna so pričakovanja Prekmurcev danes, kako bogata zgodovina Prekmurja zaznamuje sedanjost, katere so glavne posebnosti vegetacije v Prekmurju? V knjigi objavljena besedila osvetlijo to panonsko pokrajino kot prehoden in s sosednjimi kulturnimi območji močno povezan prostor, kar je pomembno sooblikovalo svojske prekmurske kulturne in naravne značilnosti.
